Sophie’s Soho Review

After walking past Sophie’s in Soho, numerous times I finally got to visit to review their brand-new seasonal menu curated by Philip Neil (previously Executive Chef at Temper). Along with an autumn update on the menu, Sophie’s covered terrace at the front of the restaurant has undergone a seasonal overhaul. It certainly looks like a great place to enjoy a drink around the open fire pit and watch the world of Soho go by.

We were greeted with some of Sophie’s delicious signature cocktails, the Early Grey Mojito and the Mary Millington. The Earl Grey Mojito was especially special, as it was served in the cutest teapot. After enjoying the ambience at the bar we were shown to our seats. Despite the large size of the restaurant, the venue was quite intimate. We loved overlooking the open plan kitchen with the massive fire pit in the middle. It screamed cosy winter dinners and it was easy to forget about the other diners sitting around us.

The new menu at Sophie’s focuses on freshly sourced British produce and is designed to allow diners to choose a selection of small plates to share. Our starters consisted of deliciously spicy Beef Pasties with Tomato, Garlic & Truffles, moreish Cockles & Beans with Nduja, Shallots, Lemon Chive Butter and Ash Baked Aubergine with Potato & Rosemary Flatbread. They were all full of flavour and that perfect mix of being filling without being too heavy.

Of course for our mains, we had to take advantage of the slow cooked West Country roast rump of beef. It had been slow roasted over the open fire pit and while a little rare for my liking, it didn’t last long on my plate. The beef was served with potatoes and ratatouille where the only disappointment was that there weren’t more on the plate. We’re definitely suckers for potatoes here at ONIN.London so more is always better.

Dessert though was the ultimate way to end the meal. Carmalised Pineapple with coconut sorbet! It was a winner with my friend and I for sure.

After dinner we headed downstairs to Jack Solomons. a super cool speakeasy style club to sample some cocktails and enjoy the night. The venue promises to be jampacked full of events this autumn and provide a mix of eclectic tracks from old school rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll and sounds of the 60s, 70s and 80s dance and rock classics right through to the present day.

So why not visit Sophie’s Soho for drinks and dinner, before partying the way downstairs at Jack Solomons. It’s bound to be a fun night out. And if you’re looking for somewhere to take your kids out for lunch or dinner, then Sophie’s has released a new kids menu with prices ranging from £7-£10 so now the whole family can enjoy a night out this half-term.
