The Cartford Inn Review
It’s not often ONIN.London gets to escape from London, but when we do… you know we’re going to bring you on the best places to visit. This weekend we visited the gorgeous Cartford Inn, a 17th century coaching inn located in rural Lancashire. It was the perfect place to get away for the weekend and we can now see why escaping up North is something Londoners need to do more often.
The Cartford Inn is located in Little Eccleston, a cute little village not far from Preston. We made the mistake of booking a train to Preston, so if you’re not driving make sure you book tickets to Lytham and St. Annes. It’ll mean a cheaper taxi ride.
Arriving at the inn, we were quickly greeted by staff who offered us a drink and showed us to our table (as were were too early to check in). This was the best decision as both my friend and I found the restaurant and pub utterly charming. We loved looking over the gorgeous river views and admiring all the local art work while enjoying a lunchtime drink. Lunch soon arrived and as promised, the food was spectacular. Probably the best burger I’ve had in a long time. Despite eating out quite regularly in London, there’s just something about great Northern pub food.
After our delicious lunch, we were shown to a room for the evening. While every single one of the fifteen luxury bedrooms, including the penthouse, are individually decorated – it is the Luxury studio cabins with a ‘front facing’ river views that you really need to stay in.
We stayed in the Ziggy Room, the luxury studio cabin dedicated to Mr Ziggy Stardust himself, David Bowie. The attention to detail in this room was absolutely phenomenal. I don’t actually know where to start or what impressed us more. Was it the bath tub at the end of the bed? The stunning views of River Wyre? The sound system? The stocked mini bar, which even had a fresh lime available so guests could make the perfect G&T? The décor? The hologram of David Bowie by Martin Richardson? The walk in shower? The heated balcony? The coffee machine? Let’s just make this easier and say it was everything! We didn’t want to leave our room and contemplated ditching our train ride home the next day, just to spend another day taking in the serene views.
The next morning, after a restful night’s sleep we revisited the restaurant (a short walk away from our accommodation) and enjoyed the included breakfast. Guests can choose from a buffet (of fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and yoghurt) or a freshly cooked breakfast. Of course, we had to try both, so can recommend the omelette and the Full English.
The Cartford Inn was a gem in the heart of Lancashire and we wish we could visit every weekend. It’s the perfect getaway for couples, families or mates in need of a break from the hustle and bustle of London. You’ll fall in love with everything about The Cartford Inn and probably end up spending a fortune on local artwork and artisan products from the on site deli Toti… but you won’t regret a single thing about it. Rooms start at £150.00 for the B&B, so take the opportunity and escape today!
