A Bath city staycation at Hotel Indigo Bath
Enjoy a restful and glamorous stay in the very centre of Bath Spa
Planning a West Country staycation in the beautiful city of Bath? I have the perfect hotel recommendation for you.
Set a stone’s throw from the ideally connected train station, Hotel Indigo Bath is set in a beautiful honey coloured Georgian Terrace. The hotel is situated on the peaceful street of South Parade, just steps from the city centre and fantastic shopping, bars and restaurants.
The city of Bath, made famous by the Romans and the naturally heated Roman Baths that still exist, is the ideal stay for those wanting to escape London and be surrounded by rolling hills. When entering the hotel, the décor, look and feel is whimsical and playful.
The bubbly reception team welcomed us and guided us to our room, which was stunningly decorated with period features, large windows and high ceilings. All rooms are equipped with comfy Hypnos beds with luxury Egyptian cotton linen, spa-inspired bathrooms, Nespresso coffee machines, high speed Wi-Fi and a variety of channels on a 40” flat screen TV.
I actually came upon this hotel a few years ago after visiting The Elder. This exciting restaurant from multi-award-winning West Country restaurateur Mike Robinson sits within the hotel. Part of the hotel, The Elder restaurant and bar are independently run and owned by restaurateur Mike Robinson with a focus on sustainability, seasonality, locally-sourced and wild produce.
Once unpacked, checked in and freshened up, we decided to hit the hotel’s additional restaurant, Brasserie Beau. Located on the ground floor, the restaurant also has a large outdoor terrace, ideal for sun worshippers and those looking to soak up the marvellous culture and history of this city.
Brasserie Beau celebrates the best of Britain, using only the finest British ingredients. The restaurant, which has 100 covers, is open seven days a week from 12pm to 9:30pm offering visitors a sanctuary where they can eat, drink, and unwind away from the bustling city centre.
The menu champions wild food and supports small producers, ensuring that the menus evolve daily, guided by the seasons and the availability of ingredients. Executive Chef Liam Goldstone and his team orchestrate a symphony of taste, infusing each creation with care and seasonal magic. Liam has previously worked as the Head Chef at Morston Hall in Norfolk where he held a Michelin star throughout his tenure.
To sample the delights we indulged in a miraculously=sized Beef and Mushroom Pie for two which we barely made a dent in. In fact, it came home and fed the family for days afterwards as well as satisfying us on the evening! The restaurant has a stunning wine list and an impressive array of cocktails – the latter I sampled instead of pudding, and I can highly recommend the Old Fashioned.
Despite the cocktail indulgence, we awoke bright and early and headed down to the stunning hotel gym. I say stunning, because the Bath stone vaulted ceiling give the effect of being in a glamourous wine cellar, rather than a gym. The equipment was brand new and had everything you need for a solid workout.
Breakfast was impressive. A varitable feast where guests can pick from the continental options or order hot dishes too. We ordered a veggie fry up which was made up of seasonal ingredients that all tasted fresh and local. Portions were great, setting you up for the day.
Overall, our stay was fantastic. There’s a lot to do in Bath, from shopping and historical tours, to taking a dip in the fabulous rooftop pool at Bath Spa. Definitely pop it on your trip list!
