Jawbox Gin Review

So I have a confession to make… I never liked Gin before I moved to the UK. Of course if you follow OnIn.London, you know this has changed. It was Gin and Ginger Ale that made me see the light. Of course I soon moved onto to the classic G&T’s, but Gin and Ginger Ale will always hold a special place in my heart. So when I received a bottle of Jawbox Gin all the way from Belfast and saw their perfect serve was Gin and Ginger… I got a little excited.

The 43% ABV Gin is a Classic London Dry and contains 11 botanicals:

  • Juniper Berries
  • Black Mountain Heather
  • Coriander Seed
  • Cassia WQuills
  • Angelica Root
  • Orris Root
  • Cubebs
  • Lemon Peel
  • Cardamon
  • Liquorice Root
  • Grains of Paradise

Straight the gin is supposed to leave a citrus finish with a lingering and juniper and pine taste. I didn’t get this, but found the gin to be quite spicy and this taste overpowered the citrus notes. Definitely not a negative as it was still quite smooth and easy to drink.

When mixed with Fentimans Ginger Ale, it was absolutely delicious. It made my heart sing just a little and I wished I had more ginger ale and the gin to try it their signature serve number 2. Ginger Ale, Gin and a Honeycomb Garnish!

And to celebrate Mojito Day on the 11th July with Jawbox Small Batch Gin and create The Southside A.K.A. Jawbox Mojito which is refreshing and light but packed full of mint, citrus and gin flavours, it is easy to make and delicious:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add 50ml Jawbox Gin, 30ml Lime Juice and 15ml Sugar Syrup (2 sugar to 1 water). Shake and fine strain into a highball glass over crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

RRP: £30 for a 70cl bottle. ABV: 43%
