Jimmy Garcia’s BBQ Popup 2019 Review
On the 4th May 2019, ONIN.London visited the 2019 launch of King Of Popup Jimmy Garcia’s acclaimed BBQ Club riverside dining experience. We’ve been previously and continue to be astounded by the amazing food and cocktails that we get to enjoy during the evening. This is the third summer Jimmy and his team are appearing by the river and they have introduced a new concept; Patch & Picnic.
What is Patch & Picnic? I hear you ask. Well Customers will have the chance to soak-up the rays in their own riverside patch at Southbank Centre, playing classic British outdoor games such as croquet and Swingball, whilst indulging in a special BBQ Club hamper, packed with alfresco goodies. We got to sample some of these and can safely say, definitely get the BBQ Club Hamper… You won’t be disappointed. Alternatively, guests will be able to bring their own food to enjoy in their patch by the Thames. Unfortunately for us because of the extremely wet weather we didn’t get to enjoy some of the outdoor games on offer, but we will be back to try them out.
Upstairs though is where the real magic happens. The BBQ Club was an interactive seven course tasting menu which included dishes such as Maple hot smoked sea trout, Duo of lamb – lamb cutlet & lamb ribs, Spiced roast baby cauliflower and of course for the vegetarians there are the likes of Spiced ginger & lemongrass baby aubergines, Maple smoked tofu and Halloumi & red pepper skewers. While Jimmy and his team do all the hard work preparing the food, it’s up to diners to use the famous Big Green Eggs to cook the meat and vegetables. It’s very fun. Fortunately for us, we had two chefs on our table so they did all the hard work. My favourite dishes were definitely the Halloumi,, the Smoked Sea Trout, Sea Bream and the amazing BBQ’d Pineapple Pana Cotta. Wbo am I kidding… it was all amazing and extremely moreish! My friend and I practically rolled out of the venue we were that full of delicious food and delightful Martin Miller’s Gin Cocktails.
