The Kitty Hawk Review

Opened last November, The Kitty Hawk is one of the new guys on the block and they are pretty lush and swanky! Based on South Place, about two minutes from Moorgate station, so location wise it’s an easy place to get to. When you step into the restaurant you are greeted with an impressive bar and dining area with bright lights and a seductive interior. We headed downstairs to a similiar but larger space with stripped back walls a modern and sleek decor, with moody lighting, exactly what is expected from a city bar and restaurant. This stylish restaurant has the perfect atmosphere for a casual get together, business meeting or a special evening meal.

Greeted promptly by our waitress we were offered cucumber infused water followed by artisan olive bread with a choice of rosemary or thyme olive oil. The restaurant certainly concentrates on attention to detail, offering personal touches, making you feel right at home. For the mains we ordered the seared Scottish salmon fillet in a creamy saffron sauce and rib eye steak with mushroom sauce, accompanied by thickly cut chips. To accompany our dishes we opted for the steamed vegetables medley with honey-roasted root vegetables. The steak was delicious and cooked to my satisfaction, as were the vegetables, which were a delight on their own. The salmon was mouth watering, seasoned well and cooked to perfection.

For dessert we had the lemon tart, which was just the right amount of sweet and sour to satisfy my taste buds. The aesthetically pleasing edible peppery flowers with raspberries and raspberry sorbet, made this a well made dessert. Alongside the tart we had to order the apple crumble. Presented in what looked like a mini Le Creuset pot, this crumble and vanilla custard did not disappoint, overall a great end to our meals.

The Kitty Hawk is a sophisticated and sleek venue with low lighting downstairs, creating a relaxing vibe. Although it’s in the mist of London, the interior allows you to enjoy the food and forget about being surrounded by the busy city. All in all, Kitty Hawk gets a big thumbs up.
