La Maritxu: Soho Welcomes the Authentic Taste of Basque Cheesecake
La Maritxu, the viral Basque cheesecake specialist, is opening its doors at Kingly Street, Soho. This charming addition brings the rich, authentic flavors of the Basque Country to the heart of London’s West End. La Maritxu is born from the family traditions of three sisters and founded by Lucía Larragoiti, with María and Almudena spearheading the creative vision. Their iconic cheesecake, served with a touch of warmth and familial pride, offers a true taste of their heritage, making it a unique culinary experience. Nestled close to the bustling Carnaby Street, La Maritxu will become part of Soho’s renowned food scene, offering locals and visitors another irresistible reason to explore the area.
Founded with a deep love for the culinary traditions of San Sebastian, La Maritxu’s signature Basque cheesecake is baked with the best quality ingredients and follows a family recipe passed down through generations. Each cheesecake is baked at high temperatures, creating a caramelised burnt crust with a creamy, indulgent interior. Guests can enjoy a slice of this decadent dessert or take home an entire 8” or 10” cake to share with friends and family.
La Maritxu’s menu is intentionally simple, with a focus on showcasing its standout product: the Basque Cheesecake. Complementing the cakes is a selection of beverages, including expertly brewed coffee, as well as a curated range of merchandise including aprons and utensils, all reflecting the brand’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship which is a hallmark of the Basque Country. Although the menu currently centres on the original Basque Cheesecake, future plans include exciting new flavour variations.
Located on bustling Kingly Street, La Maritxu aims to cater to dessert enthusiasts, local workers, tourists, and Londoners alike, offering a sweet escape within Soho’s dynamic food scene. The café’s warm and inviting space mirrors the family values that underpin the brand, ensuring every guest feels welcome from the moment they step through the door.
Lucía Larragoiti, founder of La Maritxu and the visionary behind its London expansion, shares her excitement: “Opening La Maritxu in Soho and joining this buzzing, iconic food scene is a dream come true for us! We are incredibly proud of our Basque heritage, and it’s an honour to share our family recipe with this vibrant part of the city. We’ve poured our hearts into every detail, from the recipe to the ambiance, and we can’t wait for people to come and taste the love we bake into each cheesecake.”
La Maritxu is the latest in a series of exciting new openings in Soho, further solidifying the area’s status as a culinary hotspot. Kingly Street welcomed The Counter and Little Violet Door, while the iconic three-storey alfresco dining destination, Kingly Court has recently introduced, Goldies, a wood-fired culinary experience, from the team behind the beloved local bistro Blanchette.
La Maritxu is set to open its doors this September.
