Lazeez Tapas: The Lebanese tastes taking Mayfair by storm
Lazeez Tapas, the Lebanese restaurant and lounge adjacent to Selfridges on Duke Street, Mayfair, has relaunched with revamped menus and a fresh new look. Lazeez Tapas brings a food sharing culture to Mayfair akin to that in Lebanon, serving contemporary Lebanese food in a relaxed setting offering 100 covers. With this in mind we knew we had to see what the revamped Lazeez had on offer.
On the side streets of Mayfair we were warmly welcomed into the Lebanese themed restaurant. The staffs made us feel instantly at ease and I saw what I could only describe as the most beautiful Shisha pipes arrayed all over the restaurant. Outside sat trendy young and old people from all walks of life, enjoying the shisha and the amazing dishes on offer.
The menu was alight of amazing Lebanese dishes made freshly in the kitchen and some of the most unique and tasty humus dishes I have tried. Lazeez has three types of humus, the traditional type we all know and love. Then two variations, the avocado humus and the aubergine humus, honestly you have to try them. We shared between us five dishes (this is more than enough for two people. We went for a mixture of vegetables, grains and meat dishes. The mixed grill is a must if you are a meat eater; it consists of kofta, lamb meshawi and shish taouk. The meat was melt in your mouth and is grilled over charcoal, which gives it that authentic smoky taste.
The grilled Halloumi salad was out of this world, we literally had to ask what herbs and seasonings were in the dressing. It was so aromatic and the flavours rolled over in your mouth, trust me and just try it.
The great thing about the menus is that all cuts of meat are grilled over charcoal and provides an great taste. Some of their signature dishes such as whole grilled seabass with fattoush salad and hummus will also feature. On the tapas menu there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices such as homemade hummus and patata harra (spicy fried potatoes)
