Sunday Roast at Shoreditch’s, The Light Bar
If you’ve ever worked in the Shoreditch neighbourhood, you’ve likely popped into The Light Bar for a crisp pint after a long hard day in the office.
With lofty interiors, and spacious floors, decked with industrial style decor, it’s always jam packed with drinkers, but did you know the food is pretty good also?
We decided to give it a whirl for it’s newly launched Sunday Roast set menu offering contemporary starters with classic roasts and desserts. Crafted by the talented team at Light Bar with a commitment to sustainability and culinary excellence, diners can kick the Sunday feast off in style with starters such as zesty seabass ceviche with tiger milk jalapeño, fried oyster mushrooms in a tofu and ginger dressing or beef tartare and shitake mushrooms with Jerusalem artichoke crisps.

For mains, choose between tender roast rump beef with a rotating option of succulent Somerset Saxon roasted chicken or pork each week. The hearty roasts are accompanied by full trimmings, including rich gravy, roasted vegetables, crispy kale, golden roast potatoes, and unlimited Yorkshire puddings when dining on the set menu. Guests can further indulge with sides such as spiced creamy cauliflower cheese and finish with a classic light and airy chocolate mouse or a juicy, crumbly blackberry tart.
After a particularly indulgent week of dining, I wanted to keep it on the healthier side so went for cured trout, which was delicious and fresh, served with crunchy, zingy red cabbage. This was an interesting accompaniment which just worked really well.

For mains, we opted for the chicken roast which was well portioned, tender and moist, and the trimmings were all tasty and fresh. The roast is a bit smaller than the average roast in London now, but I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing as often a roast can take you out for the rest of the evening. I felt fairly energetic still afterwards, especially after a cheeky dessert of churros with a ridiculously moreish chocolate dip – not so healthy, but life is all about balance!
The Light Bar is the ideal spot to enjoy a cosy roast perfectly paired with its impressive classic and vintage wine list or house cocktails, set within an iconic and converted East London setting of an old Victorian power station built in 1893.
