Machiya Bar’s Omakase Review

Onin.London attended Machiya Bar at the end of last year and were amazed at what we found. Arriving we were a tad confused as we weren’t expecting a small but popular Japanese Restaurant, but upon walking down the stairs to the dimly lit bar, we truly felt like were were discovering an undiscovered London speakeasy. It really was a hidden gem in the middle of Central London.

After being given a welcome drink, the fate of our cocktails lay in the hands of Machiya Bar’s mixologists. This is all because they’re launching London’s first Cocktail Omakase experience in their cosy drinking den this winter.

What is omakase? Well it’s a variation on the popular Japanese dining trend that allows the chef to create a unique multi-course meal, is a four-drink journey through cohesively crafted beverages.  Mixologists will improvise, surprise and delight adventurous drinkers – whether it’s gin, rum, vodka or sake based, the bartender is in charge of designing an experience for the customer, guided by his or her drinking preferences.

For only £40 per person, you receive a welcome drink and three cocktails. The Cocktail Omakase experience runs weekly Tuesday – Thursday from 6 – 9pm. The experience lasts one and a half hours and guests will need to pre-book. Tables are limited to 4 people.

The mixologist created three cocktails each, that we’re just perfect for my cousin and I. Sweet, fruity and sour – they were all delectable. My favourite was definitely the apple and vanilla based cocktail with the delicious garnish of caramelised apples.

We throughly enjoyed our Omakase Cocktail experience and it really was something truly unique. You too will find Machiya Bar to be truly one of those bars you want to tell everyone about, but also want to keep to yourself so you can sneak away from the hustle and bustle of London.
