Nordic Bar: Soho

Nordic2-377x163 (1)

I went to Scandinavian themed bar, Nordic, in Soho last Thursday to watch England against Uruguay in the World Cup. I’ve since tried to erase all memory of this game.

You could be forgiven for missing Nordic, 5 minutes from Tottenham Court Road, as you enter it via a staircase down from the street. Inside are comfortable seating areas, numerous screens, and an area with a table tennis table and fuseball. For tonight these were folded away to make space for the crowd of hopelessly delusional England football supporters, myself included.

The place quickly filled up as the game approached, and some passionate Colombian supporters entered us in the meantime. The standing area had a great atmosphere, without you having to fight too much to see the screen. The crowd mainly seemed quite young and there was a really fun, party atmosphere here. Even after the final whistle had all but ended England’s World Cup hopes.

Nordic have a happy hour 5-7pm, every day but Thursday when bottles of Carlsberg and Tuborg are £2. On Thursdays cocktails are 2-for-1. They were kind enough to let me sample their platter, which included calamari, onion rings and wedges. This was classic bar food, with a welcome twist from the calamari.

Catering for the after-work, young professional crowd seems to be working for them and it’s created a fun vibe. Although England are out, I’d recommend Nordic for a fun place to catch one of the games. Areas can be booked by emailing [email protected].
