Oslo Review

Hackney has done it again with the amazing OSLO. The light, airy and striking ground floor restaurant and bar not only offers a laid-back environment to eat, meet and drink in but also provides an all-day hang out spot in the heart of East London. The venue was a breath of fresh air, in its adapted building and offered great food and drink options.

With a newly appointed Head Chef, Adrian Watters (ex Soho House Group), at the kitchen’s helm, the new food menu celebrates the very best of British ingredients while also offering a modern take on old-school comfort food favourites. With years of culinary experience under his belt, Adrian’s working highlights have included the 2012 Olympic Games, Beyoncé’s birthday bash in NYC, as well as working at Harry & Meghan’s Royal wedding last year.

The menu gave us absolute life! There was so much to choose from and everything tasted like it had fallen from the sky. Let’s get into the food. For our starters we decided to share a portion of the salt and paper squid, with Harissa mayonnaise. The portion size was huge and more than enough to share between two people.

The mains were the centrepiece of the night. We tried the 28 day aged rump of beef, with fat chips and garlic mushroom cream, honestly a moment of silence for this dish. The beef rump was huge and cooked to absolute perfection, the chips were lightly salted with rosemary and sea salt and the garlic mushroom cream sauce was out of this world. My friend ate the black bream and sautéed new potatoes, topped with a spinach and kale pesto. This dish was so refreshing and perfect for those hot lazy summer days. – Can I just add that the cocktails at OSLO are second to none, they were all packed with a punch and tasted amazing. My favourite of the night had to be the Tanqueray No.10 cocktail, eat your heart out Gin lovers.

We ended the night with one of my favourite desserts in the world. The sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce…. OMG it was fabulous and HUGE. If you are on a cheeky date, I would recommend grabbing two spoons and digging in together. You will both leave feeling sweet (pun very much intended).

If you are looking for a great time in Hackney, we highly recommend you head down to OSLO.
