Sakagura celebrates the Japanese maple leaf season

This month Sakagura has decked out their restaurant and bar in a beautiful Autumn leaf installation. As you enter you will be wowed by the beautiful hanging Autumn leaves from the ceiling in the restaurant and the display of Autumn leaves displayed at the bar, where you will see a mix of red, orange and yellow leaves. This beautiful installation is to celebrate the change of season, but they didn’t stop there…. Sakagura have also teamed up with Gekkeikan-sake and KIRIN ICHIBAN to offer guests a limited edition drinks menu, utilising seasonal ingredients.

This restaurant is swanky and their zakaya style menu offers up dishes that will have your taste buds jumping for joy, oh and when it comes to presentation, you’ll be so amazed at how beautiful each dish is presented. You may just second guess if you should eat it or marvel at its beauty instead.

At Sakagura its a sharing concept, so we ordered around 7 dishes to share between the two of us. We started with the Nasu Dengaku – aubergine marinated in a sweet white miso glaze. I’ve had this a couple of times in Japanese restaurants as its a Japanese favourite, but I have to say the Sakagura creation is simply quite wonderful, the aubergine is tender, full of flavour with a sweet tang and very moorish!

We were blown away by the presentation of the sashimi duo – three pieces of salmon and tuna akami sat beautifully on a bed of crushed ice, along with a beautiful flower garnish. They were fresh, soft and buttery, an absolutely dreamy dish and definitely the winning dish of the night for me!

If you’re an octopus lover like my dinning partner then you must try the Takosu – simmered Spanish octopus sashimi with bonito tosazu vinegar and yuzu miso. I shy away from octopus, but I was told it was delicious and one of the best he had eaten.

With every Japanese meal its obligatory to order gyoza, the pork gyoza that was served up didn’t disappoint! The food at Sakagura is fresh, upmarket delicious Japanese food, which is full of flavour. The staff are very friendly and you do feel very well looked after when dinning in. A firm favourite and has been for quite a while now, needless to say I’ll be back for another exceptional dinning experience.
