Villa Ascenti Gin Review

I was recently sent a bottle of Villa Ascenti Gin to review and was pretty excited, I don’t have many Italian gins in my ever growing gin collection. The bottle certainly fits in nicely with its gorgeous pale green colour, copper lid and Italian countryside images on the table.

Villa Ascenti Gin is marketed as super premium, home-grown, new Italian gin which is made with signature ingredients, distillates and botanicals from the hills of Piemonte. It is inspired by the natural beauty, history and social context of the land with its main botanicals including six local ingredients sourced from the hills of Piemonte; Mint, Thyme, Moscato grapes, Achillea, Tansy and Sage. The result is said to be herbaceous gin though with the sweetness of juniper.

Upon tasting the gin straight, the herbal notes are very prominent though it leaves a lingering taste of mint on the tongue. The mint flavour becomes even more prominant when tonic water is introduced. As does the scent. It’s probably one of the nicest smelling gins I’ve had the pleasure of smelling!

The perfect serve is 50ml Villa Ascenti Gin and 150ml Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water with fresh lemon and spring of thyme. Unfortunately we only had regular Indian Tonic Water, so I can only image that the mint flavour would be toned down with the introduction of the Mediterranean Tonic Water.

It was a refreshing gin, very sweet almost Old Tom style. This is likely due to the base spirit being made from Moscato Grapes. The uniqueness of the flavour was one that took me back to summer nights enjoying a gin and tonic.

We were also interested in trying the VILLA ASCENTI CLASSICO 125ml Villa Ascenti Gin 500ml Prosecco, 125ml soda water with a Splash of syrup and Garnished with fresh herbs and grapes and served over plenty of ice. It definitely sounded like the perfect summer cocktail which could be enjoyed time and time again. Definitely one that we’re adding to our must try list.

Villa Ascenti can be purchased from Ocado and Amazon for £35.00.
