The Lucky Pig Cocktail Masterclass review and Valentine’s Day Party

If you’re wondering how to spend Valentine’s Day, I can wholeheartedly recommend heading to The Lucky Pig for either their cocktail masterclass or their Valentine’s Party. I spent my Saturday afternoon at their cocktail masterclass and I’m already planning my next visit.

From 5pm on Saturday 14th February, the bar shifts into full Valentine’s modeThe mixologists have created a special menu of Valentine’s cocktails, all themed and beautifully thought through. Bartender Etienne talked about a book he read inspired the name Twisted Love. With Lanique Rose Liqueur at the heart of the menu, everything had this gorgeous rose‑tinted luxury to it.

At the party, guests can have their fortunes read by a tarot reader between 7–9pm, while live music from Mapleton Sessions—a jazz and pop acoustic duo- will set the mood. Tickets include a welcome glass of fizz and canapés (served 7.30–9pm), and later DJ Gari keeps the energy going until 2am.

We didn’t  just try the cocktails – we got to make our own at a companies masterclass and it was so much fun. Etienne and Nevan were incredibly knowledgeable, explaining the equipment, techniques and ingredients without ever making it feel intimidating.

We could choose from around six cocktails. I went for Twisted Love and Bed of Roses. About nine of us opted for Twisted Love, which shows how popular a martini-style drink still is. Etienne gave a demonstration before we stepped  behind the bar ourselves. Each pair took turns making their cocktail, which I actually preferred—it meant we could watch, cheer each other on.  Etienne guided us through every measurement: Lanique rose liqueur, Briottet rhubarb liqueur, lemon, Angostura bitters. The rose liqueur was sweet, floral and absolutely delicious while the bitters balanced it. One person exclaimed their drink ‘tastes exactly’ like  Etienne’s and I’d have to agree. This just shows what a great teacher he is.

By the time I made Bed of Roses, I felt much more confident behind the bar. Made with Bombay Sapphire gin, raspberry syrup, rose syrup, lime juice, St Germain elderflower liqueur and prosecco it had a lighter profile. Choosing an edible flower garnish added a small personal touch. (I went for a purple, white and yellow one). I’m being biased, but it looked beautiful and tasted even better.

I didn’t make it myself, but the Caribbean Love Affair was a crowd favourite. The rum, aged in sherry barrels, gives it a deeper flavour, and when you pour the ingredients before adding ginger ale, it creates a lovely two‑tone effect.

The canapés kept us going nicely—spring rolls, breaded halloumi with chilli sauce—and later a chocolate platter. This was heavenly, especially paired with the smooth, indulgent dessert-style cocktail The Velvet Symphony (vodka, chocolate liqueur, Bailey’s, Cointreau and a cherry).

For anyone not drinking, there are three sober serves, including the Sober Valentine’s Garden. This is made with Cranberry juice, apple juice, lemon juice, lavender syrup, rosemary syrup, lemonade, garnished with rosemary and dehydrated lime.

This was my third visit to The Lucky Pig, and I’m still charmed by it. I can’t believe it’s been open 15 years and I only discovered it recently. The mismatched furniture, chipped paint and vintage speakeasy aesthetic give it so much character. I even learned this weekend that the name comes from gangster Lucky Luciano, who owned two pubs—The Blind Pig and The Blind Donkey—hence the combination.

Tickets for the Valentine’s Party are £20, with free entry after 10pm. Readers can use code ONIN50 for 50% off party tickets (not valid for the masterclass). Tickets available here: Here

The re are two cocktail masterclasses (one at 3pm and one at 5pm). They cost £50pp or you can combine the masterclass and party for £60. Cocktail masterclass tickets: Here.

If you’re looking for a gift, their cocktail masterclass vouchers are a lovely option. VIP vouchers (10% off until 14 February) include champagne on arrival, luxury snacks, a personalised card and either Rococo chocolates or a bouquet of flowers.

Whether you’re celebrating romance, friendship or just fancy a great night out, I genuinely had a wonderful time—and Valentine’s Day tastes even better at The Lucky Pig in Fitzrovia.
