Sundays at temper Paddington
Everyone knows temper. The ideal London spot to grab tacos or the perfectly spiced marg. But as great as they are with their Latin American cuisine, they’re also known first and foremost for the fire and theatre that takes place across the grill.
This fire and theatre, lends itself very nicely to the ultimate Sunday roast. Working with a hand-picked selection of British suppliers, the team has created a menu of temper classics, inspired by the flavours of Latin America, with quality produce at its core.
We headed down to the new Paddington location, with its large interior and sweeping windows, it was the ideal spot for people watching along the riverside. To start, we opted for one of their famed Bloody Mary’s which was the perfect level of spice and savoury. A nice touch to the Sunday menu is a series of three Mini Mary’s – a smaller serve of Bloody Mary, Bloody Maria and a Bloody Cowboy.
Knowing that starters aren’t really needed alongside a Sunday roast, instead they offer a range of snacks featuring mainly their famed tacos. We knew the portions would be enormous here, so we shared a Goat’s Cheese Taco which was divine and nicely cut through with pickled cabbage topping.
For mains, you get the choice of Roast Aged Beef, Smoked & Pulled Lamb Shoulder, Smoked Pork Belly or Smoked Baby Chicken. Each roast is served with a full range of greens, roasted carrots, crispy roast potatoes and a giant Yorkshire Pudding, with some nicely spiced red cabbage. It would be a crime not to order the Heritage Cauliflower Cheese with Mole as well – it’s pricey at £13.00 but comes to the table with a crisp cheese top, hot at molten lava.
Deciding on the Smoked Pork Belly and the Lamb Shoulder, we were really impressed with the quality of the meats. The roast was satisfying and moreish and to be honest, never ending. We were seriously impressed. For the more adventurous, and those who are indecisive with a big appetite, you can also opt for a Family Style Roast which serves two and includes the aged beef roast, roasted pork, smoked lamb shoulder. This is £35.00 per person, but worth it in my opinion. Leftovers for days.
It was such a gorgeous day when we went and the restaurant was streamed with sunlight, so instead of ordering a full bodied red, we made our way through the cocktail menu instead – always a fun Sunday afternoon activity. All were really good but I would highly recommend the Lychilli Margarita and the Mezcal Paloma.
If you have a single shred of space, it’s definitely worth trying one of temper’s boozy serves – booze-laced ice cream. I really liked the Milk Ice Cream with Cazabel Coffee.
