WELCOME TO THE GREAT CENTRAL PUB BY MATT FLETCHER
A few months ago Onin.London visited the fabulous Five-star Grande Dame hotel, The Landmark London in Marylebone. A favourite of ours already… but we were there to experience gastropub within the hotel the Great Central Pub by Matt Fletcher.
Chef de Cuisine Matt Fletcher had plans to marry the old with the new and honouring the original design, with interiors paying homage to the romantic era of travel. The Great Central Pub by Matt Fletcher achieved this goal and the venue has gorgeous characteristics such as the oak-panelled walls and richly historic atmosphere. Matt’s influence showcases a fresh design perspective, stripping back the previous bar and restaurant’s corporate feel, with soft furnishings and modern art, adding character to the space and creating a welcoming, friendly and relaxed drinking and dining experience, whilst maintaining The Landmark’s quality service. Definitely while my friend and I were there, service was impeccable. With the bar manager recommending his favourite dishes. The staff were also really passionate about working there which was nice to see.
The classic British Pub has certainly been upgraded and set new standards. The night we went was around Burns Night so on top of the regular menu, there was the opportunity to sample some Scottish cuisine. We’re told this extra menu is ever changing and it’s a great way to showcase other cultures and flavours of the world.
For our food, we did stick to the more traditional menu, tasting small bites such as Sticky Honey Mustard Pork Belly Bites, Tempura Prawns and mains such as Bangers And Mash. The chicken dish I had on the night is unfortunately no longer on the menu but it was sublime. Though with delicious burgers and curries on the menu, you’ll find something that’ll tickle the taste buds!
Drink wise, guests can chose between a lovely selection of wines, beers or cocktails. Definitely ask for the Flat White Martini! A sweet Baileys twist on the Espresso Martini! It’s well worth it and simply delicious.
