White Water Rafting At Lee Valley Review

If you’ve ever wanted to try White Water Rafting, now is the time to do it with March Mayhem specials hitting Lee Valley White Water Centre. From now until the end of March, adrenalin seeking adventurers can raft Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and pay only £38 per person!

Now I’ve been to a lot of fun events in my time as a writer for ONIN.London but this was the most heart pounding, exciting and thrilling event yet. Arriving super early for our 12:00pm booking, we took advantage of walking around the grounds and taking in the fun and friendly atmosphere. Lee Valley White Water Centre really is a gorgeous place and it was easy to tell that the guides really love working here. It’s also great that locals can wander around with their families and take in all Lee Valley has to offer.

As part of your experience you’ll be provided with wetsuits, helmets and life jackets to help you and your crew navigate the 300m Olympic Course. All with the help of a trusty and experienced rafting guide, of course. Now I’ve done white water rafting in America twice, so I thought I had a pretty good handle on things but this was a completely new experience. Before starting off on the rapids, you have to complete a swim test so guides can work out your swimming level and be able to show them you can follow instructions.

Not being a strong swimmer, this part scared me more than the actual rafting experience. Though when you’re being made to jump in to freezing cold water, show you can float down stream feet first and then have to swim to the edge of the course… you do it. It might not seem like a big feat to some, but to me – it was an achievement.

We spent about an hour and a half on the course, jumping over rapids, being drenched with more icy cold water and showing off our rafting skills. There were plenty of screams and a ton of laughter. Luckily our boat didn’t capsize but we did have to put some of our skills into practice by rescuing a boat that had.

To warm up after our exhilarating experience, we enjoyed hot chocolates and sausage rolls in the newly renovated Terrace Bar & Café. It’s a gorgeous venue and it is not hard to see why locals and adventures alike enjoy spending their time here. We know we couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Despite the cold weather, this was a great activity that really any one can enjoy. So bring your friends, family and colleagues together to take advantage of this March Mayhem Special and get White Water Rafting ticked off your bucket list.
