The Grill Market Review
The independent movement in London fills me with joy. This is not some political campaign, no this is the increasing choice of small independent restaurants and cafes with an array of fresh, filling and healthy food. The Market Grill is a fantastic representation of these tasty lunch choices, with an in store bakery, eclectic daily lunch and breakfast menu.
The Market Grill has a Holborn and Fulham branch, both containing an in store bakery and top notch chefs. Holborn is a hub for weekly lunch-goers, and Fulham is situated underneath the Lomax gym and serves up an uber healthy menu void of bread and gluten!
I headed down to their Holborn branch to have a mosey!
The menu board displayed a cool array of your protein element from BBQ sticky pork and seared steak to teriyaki salmon and grilled halloumi. There then was a choice of freshly made salads on show which you teamed you meat (or veggie option!) with:
– Pearly Barley, Asparagus, Sugar Snap Peas and Dill with a Lemon and Garlic Vinaigrette.
– Marinated Kale, Pecorino, Walnuts and Radishes with a Mandarin Dressing.
– Quinoa and Bulgar Wheat, Rocket, Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumber, Parsley and Mint with a Herb Vinaigrette.
– Thai Slaw. White Cabbage, Carrot and Mixed Pepper with Peanut Thai Dressing.
I was feeling in a sticky pork belly mood, and before I knew it everything had come out on a steaming hot plate.
The pork was extremely juicy and flavuorsome, it worked really well on the bed of quinoa and pearl barley. I am not too sure if my thai slaw matched my meat in flavour however it tasted great nonetheless. My only criticism is I feel there should have been a choice of sauce or dressing as underneath the succulent pork the salads were a tad dry.
For afters I asked for the lovely waitresses recommendation and without hesitation she selected the carrot cake. Made in store (which is rare even for independents!) I was lucky to get a beast of a slice! I love to try carrot cakes all over the place and oh my golly it was one of the best. Thickly covered in cream cheese icing and gooey-er in the middle, perfecto.
As the sun shone I sat a while in the bright cafe reading their copies of The Stylist and The Shortlist. What a pleasant experience manager Tom and his team are providing for neighboring workers and residents alike. Head down for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea Monday-Friday, or to The Grill Market Lomax in the evening and the weekend too.
