42nd Street Review

ONIN.London were lucky enough to attend the Gala event of 42nd Street to celebrate Bonnie Langford, the much-loved star of stage and screen, joining the and the production extension of its residency at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The show now runs until Saturday 5 January 2019.

The show first opened on Tuesday 4 April 2017 and has since been seen by almost one million people and has won numerous awards. It’s not hard to see why, as from start to finish, the show was a dazzling all-singing, tap dancing and high-kicking spectacular. I certainly didn’t stop humming along to some of the classic broadway tunes such ‘Lullaby of Broadway’, ‘Shuffle Off To Buffalo’, ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’, and ‘42nd Street’. Though it was the huge cast of over 50 performers wearing gorgeous costumes who seamlessly sung and danced in perfect unison that really bowled me over.

Numerous ‘wow’s from audience members were heard throughout the performance and I even heard one gentleman exclaim after the end of the show ‘I could watch another hour of that’. So it’s safe to say, this is a show you won’t want to miss. It’s a Broadway show that will have you wishing your parents had sent you to tap dancing classes as a child. It’s absolute pure, theatrical magic. And with Bonnie Langford now on board, there’s no better reason to go see the show. She not only embodies the character of Dorothy Brock, but makes it her very own.
