Dang’s

This week we checked out another bar- this time Dang’s in Commercial Street. Here you’ll find expertly made crafted cocktails inspired by the flavours of Thailand.

Walking down Commercial Street we couldn’t find Dang’s until we realised it was int he basement of Slurp Noodles Spitalfields. You can enter Slurp through the door with a neon bowl of noodles then head downstairs.  The intimate space has a circular bar in the middle surrounded by deep red and orange furnishings.

There was a sofa dangling from the ceiling with thick ropes though this was mainly occupied during our stay, so we opted to sit on the leather-backed seats with a table. There’s dim lighting, exposed brickwork and an amazing wall painting giving it a cozy, welcoming vibe. We didn’t feel too crowded and the level of the music meant we didn’t have to shout at each other to be heard. My friend and I actually stayed for 4 hours as it was a good setting for catching up.

Dang’s is a late night drinking spot with Thai inspired cocktails. You may want to try the Honey Thai Tea with Phraya rum, Thai tea, condensed milk and honey or perhaps the Some Like It Hot with chilli vodka, wasabi vodka, tomato, salt and basil. Or the Rambutan featuring lychee liqueur, yuzu liqueur, sake and rose water or the Sakura comprised of Roku Sakura, cherry vodka, crème de noyaux, singani 63 and rose water. Or checkout the Banana Hibiki, Meet Your Matcha, Mai Passion, Taro Ramos, Tom Yum or Yuzu You.

Our favourite was the sparkling sake. It was light and bright. Neither of us had had this before so we had about three glasses and loved it more with each sip.

You may want to pair your cocktail with some Hat Yai style fried chicken. This is Dang’s specialty dish- traditional deep fried marinated chicken topped with crispy shallots. Known as Hat Yai chicken after the southern Thai city where it originated, it’s a dish famed across all of Thailand for its golden crisp and blend of aromatics. We loved the thin, crispy coating giving a great crunch and the pepper, garlic, coriander and fish sauce made it oh so tasty. Our only complaint is that we didn’t have more!

Alongside the Hat Yai chicken there’s also railway chicken- a uniquely red, slightly grilled chicken. Or choose between spicy and salty Zaab wings or sour and tangy Larb wings. There’s also 3 Tum salads, 3 Yum salads and sticky rice available.

Why not eat, relax and unwind at Dang’s.

Dang’s is open 5pm to 11pm Tuesday and Wednesday and 5pm to 1am Thursday to Sunday. Dang’s is available for private hire such as a birthday, celebration, or office party.
