Courthouse Hotel Soho… A Unique Blend of History and Luxury in the Heart of London
Staying at the Courthouse Hotel Soho is more than just a hotel experience—it’s a journey through London’s rich cultural past combined with the comforts of modern luxury. Located just a stone’s throw from Carnaby Street and Oxford Circus, this Grade II-listed former magistrates’ court has been masterfully transformed into a one-of-a-kind destination for discerning travellers. Onin.London stayed in May and couldn’t have been any happier!

From the moment we walked through the doors, we could see where the hotel’s character shines. Historic architectural details—like original courtroom woodwork and repurposed cell doors—beautifully contrast with sleek, contemporary design. The history here is palpable, with past guests of the building including icons like Oscar Wilde and John Lennon, lending an extra layer of intrigue to your stay. Wikipedia has some very interesting information about the history of the hotel when it was used primarily as a Courthouse and it’s a fascinating read!
The rooms are spacious, stylish, and thoughtfully appointed. We loved our extra large bed which was super comfy and provided us with the perfect base to rest our heads. It impressed us immensely that we couldn’t hear a thing from outside which given the location we were honestly expecting. We never would have guessed we were in the heart of tourist central in Soho.
The Sanook Spa and indoor pool offer a tranquil retreat from the bustle of Soho, while the private cinema and business suites are ideal for both entertainment and corporate needs. We didn’t get to see the cinema but we did spend some time in the pool and I got to enjoy a facial and shoulder and neck massage, which was utter perfection. Seriously the best way to spend the weekend.
Dining options were excellent here as well. Soho Wala serves up bold, vibrant Indian street food in a relaxed atmosphere, and the Bar—housed in former holding cells—is a quirky and intimate place for a pre-theatre cocktail. We loved the set menu which included delicious pregnancy friendly options and was really decently priced at around £30.
Plus you can’t miss the Soho Sky Terrace for sunset views over London with a drink in hand. We were very lucky with the weather when we went so got to enjoy mocktails and cocktails in the early summer sunshine.
Service throughout the hotel was professional, friendly, and unobtrusive. The staff clearly take pride in offering a memorable guest experience, which aligns perfectly with the hotel’s unique blend of heritage and modern hospitality. They were so sweet with this pregnant mum to be that they refused to let me carry my bags up or down any stairs.
Whether you’re visiting London for the first time or looking for a staycation in style, the Courthouse Hotel Soho delivers. I mean location wise it can’t be beat but it’s the service, comfort and experience that should keep guests coming back time and time again.
