Join Onin.London At A Staycation At The Royal Horse Guards Hotel

Our stay at the Royal Horseguards Hotel was the perfect staycation for an evening. In the bustling city, it’s a reprieve for anyone looking for decadent British culture. This is especially true when it comes to their food!

While staying at The Royal Horse Guards Hotel, guests can choose from two indulgent spreads. The Riverside, priced at £45 per person offers a lighter seasonal selection, including smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, coronation chicken wraps, Mediterranean pasta salad, and summer fruit tarts, accompanied by still or sparkling water.

For those seeking something more decadent, The Royal Horseguards Luxe elevates the experience with charcuterie and artisan cheeses, fresh baguettes, indulgent macaroons and chocolate brownies, fresh strawberries, and chilled wine or prosecco for £65 per person. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available, and every hamper is thoughtfully packed with reusable bottles, eco-friendly cutlery and napkins.

Their picnic baskets are especially impressive, and everything one would need for a lush picnic on the green.  Each handcrafted picnic is served in a vintage-style wicker basket, designed for easy carrying and al fresco elegance. Just steps from the bank of the River Thames, St James’s Park, Green Park and the Victoria Embankment Gardens. We were so besotted with the ambience of their restaurant on the terrace, we found a gorgeous little nook and tried all the delights their wicker basket had to offer. As their offerings are seasonal, it is subject to change, but it’s all delicious. Each selection for the picnic was labelled and packed in these cute little boxes so we knew exactly how we wanted to lay everything out. The smoked salmon with onion tasted incredible, and the BLT sandwich was an absolute treat for the taste buds. The quiche was a little treasure of flavour. I genuinely don’t think it would be possible to pick a favourite within the selection as each box held a taste of joy I didn’t know was missing from my day.

But who can forget dessert? Aside from the vast selection of dessert, I can’t get past how delectable it all was. From the eton mess to the macarons, all to be finished off with little chocolate cakes, it was actual heaven. As a dessert person, this picnic delivered… the chef’s kiss to a perfect picnic.

We did take our picnic basket back to the room with us to pick at later, but there was nothing left by morning!

Available daily until 30 September 2025, hotel guests can pre-order picnics by 12pm for same-day collection from the hotel’s One Twenty One Two restaurant with bespoke maps of the local area provided to make the most of self-guided park explorations.

We had a lovely stay at The Royal Horse Guards Hotel with the rooms being extremely comfy, stylish and well equipped. Breakfast the next morning was just as great at the picnic and we couldn’t recommend a stay here more.
