Avenue: Myth And Legend Cocktails Review

Avenue has a new cocktail menu inspired by South American and Asian most famous myths and legends. ONIN.London were luckily enough to try out these delicious cocktails in the Avenue’s opulent setting surrounded by Made In Chelsea and Top Model stars. Half of the menu celebrates five mystical animals in Asian Culture: the Black Turtle, the Red Phoenix, the Blue Dragon, the White Tiger and the Yellow Dragon. The other half of the menu is influenced by the elements of fire, air, land, water and aether which make up part of the mythologies of indigenous Inca, Maya and Aztec civilisations. The menu has been curated by Head Mixologist Ronny Barbazza and the cocktails showcase his talents to the highest degree.

Our favourites definitely included The Blue Dragon, The White Tiger, The Water and The Sun. We recommend starting with these first before making your way through the entire menu… you won’t be disappointed.

The Sun: Inspired by the Aztec sun god Tonatiuh who provided warmth and fertility to the people. Ilegal Joven Mezcal, Diplomatico Mantuano dark rum, lime juice, homemade jalapeño syrup, pineapple juice, Aztec Chocolate bitters garnished with dry pineapple, cherries and set on fire.

The Water: In homage to Chalchiuhtlicue, the Aztec goddess of water, rivers, seas and streams. Teh legend says that she only chooses one human every 10,000 years to handle the power of water and to help her look after everything within it. Copperhead Gin, Luxado bitter, yellow chartreuse and Verjus topped with Mediterranean tonic garnished with oyster leaves and lemon peel.
The Yellow Dragon: The zoomorphic incarnation of the Yellow Deity of the centre of the universe in Chinese religion and mythology. Nikka all Malt, umeshu liqueur, lulu tong syrup and lemon juice topped with Asahi beer foam with orange bitter and garnished with an amaranth flower.

The Blue Dragon: One of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations, representing the East and the spring season. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolise auspicious and strong powers.Roku Kanu gin, choya shiso liqueur, italicus, cranberry bitters and yuzu juice and decorated with blue candy floss.

The White Tiger: The king of the beasts who supposedly only appeared when the Emperor ruled with absolute virtue, or if there was peace throughout the world. According to Wu Xing theory, the white tiger became a mythological guardian of West Asia. Belvedere Vodka, sake, homemade oriental syrup, lemon juice and Bergamot bitters garnished with lemongrass and ginger.

The cocktails themselves are simply stunning and instantly instagrammable. You won’t know whether to just photograph them or drink them, but trust us you’ll be missing out if you don’t indulge in a few of these.
