Renaissance Pizzeria, Battersea Rise

Tucked along the ever-lively Battersea Rise, just a short stroll from Clapham Common, Renaissance Pizzeria is quickly establishing itself as one of South London’s most charming new neighbourhood spots. With its sun-drenched terrace – a true gem when looking to catch those Costa Del Clapham Rays – it’s the kind of place that feels made for long, golden summer evenings.

At the heart of Renaissance Pizzeria is Marco Fuso, a multi-award-winning chef who brings a slice of southern Italy straight to London. Originally from Lecce, his philosophy is simple: exceptional ingredients, slow-risen dough, and a genuine passion for the craft. The result is pizza that feels both authentic and elevated, each one a carefully composed balance of flavour, texture, and tradition.

Dining solo can sometimes feel a litle scary, but not here. The team were warm, attentive, and effortlessly welcoming, striking that perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness that makes you feel completely at ease and part of the family.

The terrace, bathed in sunlight, set the scene perfectly as I began with a classic Negroni – bitter, balanced, and beautifully executed. It paired effortlessly with my choice of pizza: the special, La Crudo. Built on a base of San Marzano Tomato D.O.P., it was layered with delicate Prosciutto San Daniele, vibrant red and yellow tomatoes, peppery rocket, and finished with a luxurious parmesan fondue. Each bite delivered contrast from the richness of the cured ham against the freshness of the tomatoes – with the creaminess of the fondue tying everything together. It was very tasty!

While classics like the Salami pizza, featuring San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte mozzarella, anchor the menu, more adventurous creations like the Zucca Piccante showcase the kitchen’s creativity. With pumpkin sauce, Stilton, nduja, parmesan, and Italian sausage, it’s a bold combination that speaks to Marco Fuso’s ability to push boundaries while staying rooted in Italian tradition.

Despite being comfortably full, dessert was non-negotiable. The tiramisù was everything you’d want from an authentic Italian: light, creamy, and deeply rich, a fitting nod to Italy’s most beloved sweet. Paired with a glass of wine, it rounded off the meal beautifully.

Renaissance Pizzeria is more than just a place to stop and eat, it’s a slice of Italy in South London, where craftsmanship, hospitality, and atmosphere come together seamlessly. Whether you’re meeting friends or enjoying a solo escape, it’s a spot that invites you to linger, and one you’ll find yourself returning to again and again. I’m sure I will as a local myself.
