The Cadogan Arms, Chelsea

Sunshine in Chelsea has a way of drawing a crowd, and The Cadogan Arms was living proof of that when we visited on a Saturday lunch. The place was buzzing – so much so that guests spilled out onto the pavement, basking in the rare, sun-drenched afternoon. While the exterior was tempting, we opted to sit inside, trading sunshine for a more relaxed vantage point, and it paid off.

From the moment we sat down, it was clear that despite the packed house, the kitchen and bar were running like clockwork. We began with cocktails: a twist on a paloma and a spicy margarita. Both were beautifully balanced.

We followed with a bottle of Chenin Blanc, a perfect choice for a leisurely Saturday meal. Crisp and expressive, it paired effortlessly with the starters, which arrived promptly despite the busy service. The Gallagher oysters were wonderfully fresh, served simply with shallot vinaigrette and lemon, letting the quality of the produce speak for itself. Alongside, the Hampshire asparagus with romesco sauce offered something earthier and more robust, the nutty, slightly smoky sauce complementing the delicate asparagus beautifully – an interesting vegan option.

For mains, we leaned into classic pub territory, and The Cadogan Arms delivered in spades. The fish and chips was exactly what you hope for: crisp, golden batter giving way to flaky, perfectly cooked fish, with chunky chips that held their own.

Then came the Cadogan ham, egg & chips – a dish that made an impression before we’d even taken a bite, simply due to its sheer size. Enormous feels like an understatement, but it wasn’t just about portion. The ham was incredibly tender, rich without being heavy, and elevated by subtle hints of Dijon mustard running through the dish. The spiced pineapple ketchup added a playful, slightly sweet contrast that tied everything together in a surprisingly refined way. I have never seen a bigger piece of ham in my life ha!

We skipped a traditional dessert, but an old fashioned cocktail rounded things off perfectly. Smooth, warming, and expertly made, it felt like the right kind of full stop to a generous and satisfying meal.

What stands out about The Cadogan Arms is its ability to deliver quality without losing that lively, welcoming pub atmosphere. The team are wonderful, the vibes immaculate. I definitely want to return as I reckon their Sunday lunch would be a cracker!
