Afternoon Tea at The Oblix Review

The highlight of having Afternoon Tea for me is generally the cakes, however at The Oblix I have to say it was the stunning view of London (with us being up on the 32nd floor of The Shard). For the first five minutes we just sat there and gazed out of the large window in Awe, oh London you are so beautiful! The Oblix has designed a menu using a blend of ingredients sourced from a mix of different boroughs in London, offering the very finest. You can find chai spices sourced from the well-loved Brick Lane market and cured Angus beef from Lambeth. I love the concept and we were very excited to try out what was on offer.

The sandwiches included:
Hackney – smoked salmon, cream cheese & rye
Islington – duck egg & truffle mayonnaise
Haringey – ham, alexandra cheese, celeriac & mustard
Lambeth – cured angus beef & horseradish
Southwark – coronation chicken, mango & coriander

My favourite by far was the ‘Duck egg & truffle mayonnaise’ it was rich in flavour and tasted divine. The smoked salmon and cream cheese was another firm favourite. The baked scones were fresh and tasty, which came with cream, and strawberry jam.

As for the cakes… The Oblix didn’t disappoint… they served:
Southwark – chocolate stout & pear choux bun
East sussex – sea buckthorn meringue tart
Tower hamlets – pumpkin cake
Putney – “crunchie” chocolate pecan bar
Westminster – cafe mocha

I enjoyed the pumpkin cake, which is quite a rare desert and the Chocolate Stout & pear choux bun, gave me an instant chocolaty happy boost, it was sweet but not over powering. We opted for chai tea and a glass of Champagne, to wash down all the delightful treats!

The great thing about The Afternoon Tea is you can ask your waiter for more of your favourites at no extra cost. Yes ladies if you fancy more Pumpkin cake, just say the word and more will be delivered to your table. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, we are huge fans!
