Balans Soho Society Café Seven Dials: Review

Balans Soho Society

The amazing Balans Soho Society has expanded and moved into the uber trendy Seven Dials village near Covent Garden, a stone throw away from theatre land this vibrant family friendly café offers some of the best food in Covent Garden. We are slightly biased when it comes to Balans and that is simply because the food is always amazing and the staff are always easy going and extra helpful.

The menu offers a mix of café style breakfast/brunch food alongside restaurant style courses. For starters I indulged in the seared scallops with a puree of fennel, orange and bottarga, it was amazing the scallops were delicate and melt in the mouth and the puree went perfectly alongside it, the dish was so moreish I left my plate clean. My friend ate the coconut shrimp which was lightly battered shrimp with a mango and sweet and sour sauce, her shrimp was lovely but my scallops beat them hands down.

For my main I asked our amazing waiter what we should try, he recommended I go for the coffee rubbed bavette (steak for those who are thinking what is a bavette) which came with onion rings and a chipotle and tomato salsa. Can I first add a warning if you are not into spicy food, this dish is not for you. The steak was the bomb!! Literally there were flavor explosions in my mouth in every bite, I love spicy food and to be honest was not expecting the dish to be spicy but it made it all the better. The steak was perfectly cooked and was tender and easy to cut, I opted to have some chips just to top off the experience and I was not disappointed. My friend opted for fish and chips, I didn’t taste her dish because mine was sooooooo yummy, but her plate was clean so that is always a great sign.

By the time dessert arrived I was a little tipsy, I think I over indulged in Balans amazing cocktails, all Balans venues are known for their cocktails so I suggest close your eyes and point at the cocktail menu, none of them will disappoint you. For my dessert I opted for the banoffee pie which was huge!!!!! I actually can’t remember what my friend opted for, but again by this time I had a few too many cocktails. The banoffee pie was huge as I said and so tasty, if you have a sweet tooth and the banoffee pie is on the specials menu I urge you to try it.
