Books for Brunch: At Fable
Saturdays have just got interesting with the launch of ‘Books for Brunch’ at the beautiful Fable bar, by far one of my favourite bars in London with its stunning storybook themed decor. Perfect for what a mid afternoon speaking to an amazing author about her book, sipping coffee and eating an amazing brunch.
I had the pleasure of attending the first brunch meeting with Writer and psychotherapist Rachel Elliot, discussing her book ‘Whispers through megaphone’. Rachel brought her characters and books alive as she discussed the intricate details about their back stories, how she developed the theme and how her life as a psychotherapist helped her to understand the needs of her characters. Without spoiling the book, just buy it! You will be immersed in the story of a woman who struggles in the world after the loss of her parent and how this softly spoken woman begins an unusual friendship with the male character in the book.
The atmosphere was amazing and it felt great to sit with people actually interested in the book and enjoying each others company. The day doesn’t just finish there stay on for brunch with delicious choices including crab on toast with chilli, coriander and lime mayonnaise or Scotch egg with black pudding and piccalilli to start. There’s a range of fabulous flatbreads and sharing boards, such as the mezze board featuring bulgur wheat salad, hummus, baba ghanoush, harissa pickled chillies and olives, or salads like the vitamin-packed quinoa bowl with avocado, edamame beans, spinach, pomegranate and lemon vinaigrette for mains. Finish off with an indulgent strawberry and mint pavlova or raspberry panna cotta for dessert.
I ate the Scotch egg with black pudding and piccalilli, tasty is not even the word and the sharpness of the piccalilli perfectly matched the sweetness of the pork and the saltiness of the black pudding, I loved the squid too, I am always a fan of great squid and you will not be left disappointed. I also got to enjoy the salmon which sat on a tomato and creamy sauce to keep my meal light it was accompanied by spinach as a side. Did I mention that the lunch can be bottomless? Enjoy amazing cocktails and spend the rest of the afternoon reflecting on an amazing book with friends. Highly recommended! Why not try it for yourselves? The next dates are below:
