Brasserie Blanc Southbank: Review

Brasserie Blanc - Southbank

Brasserie Blanc is by far one of my favourite restaurant chains in London, when I heard about the Southbank venue being reopened after a refit, I had to get myself down there. For anyone who has been to a Brasserie Blanc you will know that it is a striking destination bar, with an  alfresco terrace, stunning interiors and extensive private dining facilities, combined with a bold Spring menu make for the perfect brasserie in the heart of London. The Southbank venue has the same sleek interior as its sister venues such as Threadneedle street without the pompous atmosphere that some restaurants can have.

Brasserie Blanc’s menu reads like a storybook of the flavours from Raymond Blanc’s childhood. Guided by seasonality and prepared from scratch by skilled chefs, the à la carte menu is filled with the best of British Isles produce treated with delicate French finesse. For starters we had the Escargots which were soaked in a garlic herb butter with a crispy baguette, the perfect sharing and dipping starter. We were recommended the chilli and ginger squid, which sat on a bed of coriander, roquette, curly endive, grilled courgette, aubergine in a smoked paprika and red pepper dressing, the starter was divine and was my favourite starter by far. It made me not miss the queen scallop starter that no longer makes an appearance on the menu.

For our main we had the lamb cutlets and moroccan vegetables, the lamb was beautifully cooked with a bright pink colour and melted in the mouth. The Moroccan vegetables were lightly seasoned and the hints of almond and apricot really made the couscous amazing. The other main was the steak, cooked well done with some amazing chips.

Brasserie Blanc is a must and the Southbank venue was perfect, not only did we enjoy a relaxed meal but had the opportunity to walk along the river Thames. We highly recommend Brasserie Blanc, whether it is for nice dinner or for a lighter lunch or pre-theatre bite the great value set menu is just £9.95 for a two-courses and £13.45 for three-courses, Monday to Saturday until 6.30pm. Sundays are buzzing at Brasserie Blanc, open from 12 noon until 9.30pm. So really there is no excuse!
