Chacho Buenos Aires Rib Club

Tucked down Durham Street a hop, skip and a jump from Vauxhall over and underground station lies a steelyard. In this steelyard, men work by day doing….steely things, however by night and at weekends this unassuming place fondly nicknamed ‘The Yard’ transforms into a pop-up extraordinaire. Previously home to the Dram & Baker team, there are some new kids in town.

Owners Mark and Romi welcome you to Chacho Buenos Aires Rib Club, take a seat, have a drink an soak up the South American vibes.

The long communal tables, the bubbly beats pouring from the speakers and the ice cold Trago gin cocktail in my hand tell me I’m in the Southern American capital having a lazy lunch with my fellow villagers, even the weather agreed. Only I know I’m still in the big smoke, however this can easily be forgotten for the afternoon.

Mark leisurely turns a gaggle of meats on the open BBQ as we sip, while wife Romi waits tables, orders the kitchen and keeps a keen eye on things. The whole vibe is to chill and relax, and that’s how the food is prepped and served. Nothing’s rushed, it’s ready when it’s ready. I was told this is what the guys are aiming for, the feel to be that of a large family gathering reminiscent of their time abroad.

We were firstly treated to a Picada, a platter of tapas. Cured meats, cheeses topped with quince and sweet potato, grilled watermelon and some rather yummy pickled artichoke. Oh and the bread was the gorgeous TICINO artisan rustic type that soaks up oozy olive oil like there’s no tomorrow.

Next a kaleidoscope of vibrant vegetable skewers supplied by NATOORA, BBQ-ed and seasoned with crispy skins and a smoky taste.

But suppliers TURNER & GEORGE rear their stock responsibly in an antibiotic and hormone free environment. If you’re going to eat meat it is best for it to come from somewhere like them!

The stand out for us were the ribs, so juicy and tender; when teamed with the chimmichurri sauce was a match made in heaven!

To top it all off we were presented with a beautiful Malbec Sundae. Layers of fruit, vanilla and malbec GELUPO, brownie and caramel. A lovely light culmination to our Sunday lunch.

IMAG0422The Chacho team are occupying The Yard each Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday lunch until September 28th. Take take yourselves to Vauxhall for a stunning meat-acular feast!
