Chelsea Ram Review

IMG_0066On the 30th of November, my friend and I made our way to Chelsea to visit the Chelsea Ram. We walked out of the cold wet night and into this cute little. Filled with knickknacks and the coolest toilet door I have ever seen, it felt incredibly homely. Not feeling the best on the night I attended, it was nice to be seated in a booth and just be able to relax for a couple of hours while we enjoyed classic British pub food.

I knew I wanted a burger for dinner so I opted for the Nutbourne nursery tomatoes, mozzarella. red basil. Something light and healthy…. Well a healthier option as I don’t think huge pieces of mozzarella count as the most healthy of foods. But boy was it delicious and fresh. My friend chose the Chicken Liver Parfait and she absolutely loved it.

For our mains, my friend ordered the Lamb Shank Shepherd’s Pie and I ordered the Chelsea Ram Burger. Now the Lamb Shank Pie, it’s recorded as being World Famous as the chef slow cooks Dorset lamb shanks for 12 hours, then pulls the tender meat from the bone. Next all the lovely secret ingredients are topped with a creamy mash and finished under the grill with melted Isle of Mull cheddar. Unfortunately my friend didn’t enjoy it as much as she was hoping to. While she found the pie tasty, it was a tad watery for her liking and didn’t have that oomph factor she was looking for.

I enjoyed my burger with extra bacon and avocado as it’s not hard to go wrong with a burger. I did ask for no onions but it arrived with onions. The waiter apologised for this and admitted it was his mistake. It was easily remedied though and the burger didn’t last long on my plate.

Starting to feel extremely full at this stage, we managed to fit in dessert. I chose Sticky toffee pudding, caramel sauce and Vanilla ice cream and my friend chose the Lemon cheesecake. The Lemon cheesecake was very tart and creamy but it was the Sticky Toffee Pudding that stood out. It was so sweet, moist and delectable – even though I was struggling to fit it in – there was no way I was going to try not finish it.

We washed our lovely meal down with a bottle of Côtes de Provence Rosé Carte Noire. It was a beautiful clean Rosé and utterly perfect for the meal we had. If you’re down in Chelsea, the Chelsea Ram is the place to go for classic British food, a funky but homely atmosphere and somewhere warm to escape the winter chill.
