Sycamore – A Brilliant Find In Covent Garden

Last month, Onin.London visited the gorgeous Sycamore Restaurant which is nestled inside the elegant five-star Middle Eight hotel in the heart of Covent Garden. The restaurant promises to deliver a warm and sophisticated take on Southern Italian dining and it does exactly that. Sycamore has designed the menu for sharing, so it’s the perfect spot for everything from relaxed date nights to celebrations with family and friends. I was celebrating spending time with my parents and my 10 month old twins before my parents returned to Australia, so it was a lovely way to spend the end of their trip.

The menu has been inspired by the head chef’s Southern Italian heritage so we expected every dish to be packed with comforting flavours and beautifully presented. It was no surprise that Sycamore delivered on every front.

For starters we went the crispy calamari, the garlic king prawn skewers and classic bruschetta. For £30 if you order 3 starters, you get a free glass of wine. Pretty great deal if you ask us as you’re basically also getting a free starter too! Each dish was presented  well and taste wise was delicious.

Standouts were the garlic king prawns with chilli and fresh herbs and js definitely not a dish to skip out on and the golden calamari was perfectly crisp and wonderfully fresh.

Main wise, my mum chose the sea bass which she really enjoyed and I chose one of the traditional hand-stretched sourdough pizzas which my dad and I shared. This was equally impressive and there were enough left over so we could take home for dinner later that night.

We were too full for dessert but the dessert menu did look phenomenal. As did the drinks menu. It pays tribute to the building’s musical heritage with a creative cocktail selection. Next time I go I’m definitely trying The Sicilian Cooler which consists of Middle Eight Bespoke Gin, Mandarine Napoléon, honey water, fresh lemon juice and Sicilian lemonade.

Whether you’re staying at Middle Eight or simply looking for an excellent Italian restaurant in central London… Sycamore is a destination well worth visiting. We would definitely recommend.
