Cocktail Trading Co. Smithfield
Near Barbican’s Smithfield’s Market sits Cocktail Trading Co’s latest basement cocktail joint. Lavishly stylised, on entering you’re transported to a 1930’s speakeasy, with a huge selection of liquors to satisfy any cocktail- related urges.
As well as being delicious the cocktails are inventively designed and are quite the spectacle. Most memorable was Snappers Delight, which was delivered with Chipstick ‘fries’, giant pickle and a ketchup bottle filled with a delicious mix of bourbon, chilli, pepper, peach jam, ginger and lemon juice.
My other favourite was the zesty Citizen Cane, which came inside a snow globe with coconut snowflakes. This concoction contained Cachaca, Rosebud Tincture, Cardamom-Vanilla Infusion, Lime Juice and Sauvignon Blanc.
The service was excellent with all of the staff passionate and knowledgeable about their craft. The huge range of spirits means that you can even suggest custom cocktails, however I went with the experts and their comprehensive range of options.
The prices are around £9, which is pretty normal for London cocktails, and taking into account the intricate design and the brilliant ambience and decor makes them a bargain.
I’d recommend checking out this venue or their Carnaby place for either a date or an interesting place to catch up with friends.
