Comptoir Libanais opens on Soho’s Poland Street
One of our all-time favourite places to eat and hang out has opened up a new restaurant on the uber trendy Poland Street. For those of you who have read our reviews, we have fallen in love time and time again with the quirkiness of Comptoir Libanais, the great food and of course Sirine the iconic restaurant image.
The Poland Street restaurant gives eaters the opportunity to experience wholesome and healthy Lebanese food in a souk-like setting created by renowned chef and founder Tony Kitous. Now with a take-away menu for grab-and-go and a shop featuring a treasure trove of Lebanese foodie gifts, hand-crafted beaded accessories, spices and sweets, customers of Comptoir Libanais will step off the bustling streets of London into a vibrant Lebanese market-place.
Often cited as one of the world’s healthiest cuisines with plenty of vegetarian options, Lebanese dishes typically use an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as herbs, lemon juice and spices rather than heavy sauces. The food at Comptoir Libanais stays true to this tradition with its beautiful kaleidoscope of mezze, salads, dips, soup and warm wraps as well as a selection of pastries and freshly prepared breads.
For our starters we ate a selection of mezze, you can order this to be shared between two or order a mini platter for yourself. The mixed mezze consists of baba ghanuj, hommos, tabbouleh, falafel, lentil salad, cheese sambousek, pickles & pitta bread. I also added the hearty vegetable soup of the day as part of my starters. Firstly if you love Lebanese dishes then you know how generous the portions are and we had a lot of food. Everything that arrived on our plate was amazing, my favourite was the tabbouleh with the falafel, I have always had a thing for fresh tasting food and our starters did not disappoint.
For my main I tried a new dish on the menu from the grills, it was a grilled chicken dish which was amazing. The portions were huge and I had to take some food home but I wasn’t disappointed. My friend ate the lamb and prune tagine with cous cous, if you love tagines then I would recommend you try the Comptoir dishes, they are hearty and the lamb is amazing tender.
If you still have space after all the food you consume, I would suggest trying the Comptoir selection of Baklawa with the rose and mint tea, trust me you will leave with a smile on your face.
If you love good food and great service, then I suggest head down to Poland Street and try the amazing food for yourself!!
