Diana Mixtape Review
London rolled out the red carpet last night (31st July) summer for The Diana Mixtape, and what a glittering spectacle it was. The show is playing at HERE at Outernet until 10 August 2025 before heading north for a limited run at The Lowry in Salford (19–21 August 2025). What is the Diana mixtape you ask? Well this world-premiere production is part concert, part musical, part full-blown party – and 100% fabulous.
From the moment the lights go up, you’re swept into a high-energy, heartfelt celebration of Diana – not just the icon, but the woman. With powerhouse live vocals, dazzling choreography, and a soundtrack packed with pop royalty (think Britney, Gaga, Kylie, Dua Lipa, Ariana and more), the show takes Diana’s story and reimagines it as the ultimate breakup album.
The cast is as star-studded as the subject herself. Keala Settle is a regal delight as Queen Elizabeth II, Noel Sullivan charms as King Charles III, and Lucinda Lawrence shines as Queen Camilla. Drag superstars Courtney Act, Rosé, Divina De Campo, Kitty Scott-Claus, and Priyanka deliver a show-stopping twist as multiple versions of Diana. The show was camp, captivating, and completely unforgettable. While I was expecting it to be camp… I must admit I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. At the start I did whisper to my friend “do you think Diana would be mortified by this and rolling in her grave to see her life played out in this way”. By the end of the show, I think she probably would have loved it. It was actually quite tastefully done which I was worried the production wouldn’t have an ounce of. Sorry if that seems harsh but Diana was classy and she deserved a show which showed her in the best light.
Also a highlight was Courtney Act’s portrayal of Diana. Having followed Courtney Act’s career since she first appeared in Australian Idol, I’ve always admired her grit and determination so getting to hear and see her live was super fun.
I also feel Director and Producer Christopher D. Clegg has created a production that’s as joyful as it is moving, seamlessly blending humour, heart, and high-octane pop. Whether you’re seated at a cabaret table, perched in the balcony, or dancing in the Princess Pit, the atmosphere is electric from start to finish. We were glad we had seats as being heavily pregnant having a seat was what was needed but the crowd looked like they were enjoying every moment of being able to dance in the Princess Pit.
