Drake & Morgan: Review

bar area and tables

With Valentines hot on our heels we have been exploring the most romantic places to eat in London. On our quest to find the perfect spot we stumbled upon a restaurant that’s not just perfect for Valentine’s Day, but is the kind of place you just want to ‘hangout all the time’.

Located on Pancras Square, Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross stretches out across two beautiful rooms merging luxurious leathers, polished woods and vibrant splashes of emerald green. Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross features two bars, a restaurant, a deli, a lounge and a handsome dining room and bookable kitchen ‘pods’ for private parties. There’s also a terrace, complete with blankets and hot water bottles for year-round revelry.

The food was divine! For starters we had the crab fritters and the seared rare tuna. Both were amazing with the seared tuna lightly seasoned in a ginger and sesame sauce, I refuse to eat tuna any other now that this dish has entered my life. The crab fritters were lightly spiced with a sweetcorn and chilli filling, the soft crab centre and the doughy fritter exterior reminded me of times eating my aunts Caribbean fritters. It was one of those starters that made you excited for the main.

Our mains were out of this world! We aimed for the grills I had the grilled sea bass and my friend the lamb chops. We both opted for had a portion of trio of fries each with some buttered spinach. I have to start with the fries, out arrived 3 mini baskets of fries, one with sweet potatoes, the other with a chilli, garlic and honey dressing, the other with parmesan cheese, truffle and rosemary topping. These alone could have been a meal and they accompanied the sea bass and the lamb perfectly. We even dipped a few fries in the mint sauce that accompanied the lamb; it was perfection on a plate.

We were so full but we had to make space for a dessert. I had the cappuccino semi-freddo which is a cappuccino ice cream with cappuccino foam on top accompanied by a cinnamon sugar doughnut. I have never really been a fan of deserts but the ice cream was creamy and the coffee taste was great for me a non-sweet lover. My friend had the sorbet for dessert and she recommends having all three flavours! Our favourite was by far the coconut sorbet; we have been at too many restaurants where they have got sorbet horribly wrong. It wasn’t the weird mashed ice, but beautifully creamy sorbet, and the lemon flavour was packed with amazing taste.

If you are looking for a cool hang out spot, dinner with a loved one, or a night out with friends, then Drake and Morgan is your best bet. With a bar downstairs that was lovely and buzzing and the relaxed testy rant upstairs, it’s the best of both worlds in one amazing building. What’s even better it’s in the perfect location!
