Fanny and Stella: The Shocking True Story, at Above the Stag Theatre. 8th May – 2nd June
Based on the true story of two Victorian  cross dressing performers, Thomas Ernest Boulton and Frederick William Park or Fanny and Stella, this performance is one not to be missed by anyone who has ever felt they ”don’t quit fit in”.
Fanny and Stella or Boulton and Park graced the stage usually taking female roles and wowing audiences and critics of the time, when not on the stage they would promenade through London, shopping and visiting casinos dressed as women until their arrest for  ”conspiring and inciting persons to commit an unnatural offence”.
Watch as they tell their story of friendship, love and struggle to be accepted, in their own words and hilarious songs, Fanny and Stella will have you rolling in laughter as they envelop you into their world of Victorian taboo.
Tobias Charles and Kieran Parrott star as Fanny and Stella respectively, their performance had me wondering who the ‘New characters’ were when they emerged dressed as men. Their energy and chemistry with each other truly lit up the stage, however for me it was Mark Pearce as Mr Grimes who made the show. Pearce stole every scene each time he walked on stage.
Surprisingly no nudity in this one, something I was told is quite common at Above The Stag Theatre, but a performance like this doesn’t need the lure of flesh, the opening song should be enough to get sell out audiences. Go and see this show!
