‘George and AI’ Comedy Event Review

To celebrate their ongoing ‘You and AI. As One’ campaign, Samsung UK teamed up with writer and actor George Lewis to present a free evening of live comedy last night (22 October).

The Stockport-born comedian’s hysterical parenting skits and instantly relatable sketches have racked up over 350 million views. He’s currently enjoying a sell-out run with his first solo tour. Last night he bought to life how Samsung’s AI-enabled products can work seamlessly in everyday family life with hilarious consequences. He also answered the important questions about AI, like is our fridge smarter than us? Do we have to get more AI- products so the ones we have aren’t lonely? Is the washing machine trying to escape? Do our AI devices want to marry our partner?

Hosted at the Samsung KX venue for one night, we were able to browse various Samsung products such as laptops, TVs, vacuum cleaners and even flip phones, which are making a come-back. To engage the audience with the technology, Samsung created three challenges though we only competed in two. We tried to navigate aJetBot around an obstacle course in the fastest time, and whilst we got the quickest time going under the chair, we soon lost this advantage going around a corner where we got stuck. On the plus side, we got a small bag of Haribo sweets. We also didn’t win the challenge of using a vacuum to suck up 5 balls in the fastest time, though the guy who won the prize (a Samsung phone) competed just before me so we were able to see how fast he did it.

Special guests The Clean Qweens- two of the UK’s most formidable drag artists- hosted a game of drag bingo. Fun and surprisingly educational (do you know how many vertebrae are in the human body?) it was a nice way to finish the evening. Sadly, we did not win the Samsung OLED Smart TVwhich looked amazing.
