A short journey to a busy, yet serene part of London being St. Paul’s,  lead to a visit to London’s first ever sushi burrito bar, situated in the heart of Leadenhall market. The catchy name and store sign definitely caught my attention, as I entered less-than-one-week-old Hai Street Kitchen, I was greeted by several hello’s and smiles, different accents and a sense of something new. I had never tasted sushi and didn’t expect my first visit to be full of such great choice, and succulent flavours.

The kind staff could definitely tell I was a first-timer, so politely informed me of the choice of sushi roll and fillings I could choose from, that were laid right infront of me, as I could easily watch them prepare my meal. Choices of filling includes fish or chicken katsu, grilled pork belly, salmon pastrami, flank steak, or for vegetarians and vegans; roasted carrot. There were also choices of accompanied sauces and toppings. I was happily excited to finally dig in!

If the weather was nicer at the time, an outside seated option would have been considered, but instead I opted to stay seated indoors, and was impressed with the simplistic and calming decor, with informative wall notes about the ingredients used in Hai Street Kitchen.

As I took my first bite into the delicous and carefully wrapped snack, I realised that this was no ordinary sushi roll; it contained my favourite chosen toppings being papaya, red onion, and green salad. The meal choices in HSK were definitely carefully picked, as the creative and innovative idea of blending two distinct cultures worked very well in creating a light and enjoyable snack. Every bite was well enjoyed as I later sipped on freshly squeezed lemon juice, which was a bit too sweet for me being a sour tooth!
Perfect for a quick day-time snack that will leave you feeling revitalised, great for a breather after an exhausting shopping spree in One New Change, HSK is the best wholesome lunchtime snack, as it’s not what you would expect! Welcoming staff, ridiculously affordable food, impressive decor, and a general enjoyable dining experience. 4 stars.
