Food

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Igloo style chalets offering an Alpine feast have popped up at Westfield White City courtesy of ETM group and Slingsby Gin.

In these private igloos for 2-6 people you can indulge in a three course feast for £55 per person. First course is homemade garlic bread and olives with a glass of Prosecco, second course is a sweet or savoury fondue with trimmings and a Slingsby Gin cocktail, and the third course a mince pie and mulled Slingsby Gin.

We had the savoury, Black Cow Cheese fondue. This comes with a selection of breads, cured meats, chorizo, roast vegetables, cherry tomatoes, pigs in blankets, crispy roast potatoes, roast onions and pickled onions. Those who know me know I love cheese, so this British cheddar cheesy dinner was right up my alley. We were impressed with the variety and amount of food.

The Belgian Milk Chocolate fondue (vegan dark chocolate alternative available) comes with marshmallows, sponge cake, oreos/cookies, ginger biscuits, grapes, banana, chocolate brownie, blueberries, strawberries, candy floss, prunes, apricots and pineapple. We didn’t try this one so can’t give our thoughts, but it sounds deliciously decadent.

There are five cocktails featuring award-winning premium gin Slingsby Gin. Three of the cocktails are Alpine Negroni, Winterberry Fizz and Slingsby London Dry gin and tonic. My friend had the Apple Crumble comprised of Slingsby Gooseberry Gin, apple juice, cinnamon and orange bitters. This was a light refreshing tangy but sweet cocktail, perfect to wash down the cheese. I chose the Chocolate Orange Martini featuring Slingsby Marmalade Gin, Mozart Chocolate Liqueur and cream. Given the ingredients it’s no surprise that this is a rich, milky dessert cocktail, though perhaps best suited to after rather than during the fondue. The mulled Slingsby gin was warming and comforting with the traditional flavours associated with winter and Christmas such as citrus and cinnamon.

Comfortable and cozy are how we’d describe the chalets. They come with soft blankets and pillows, and a Bluetooth speaker allows guests to choose their own soundtrack. We got into the Christmas spirit singing along to Mariah and Michael Buble. The chalets offer 360 degree views of Westfield Square- we had  great view of the massive Christmas tree which contributed to the festive atmosphere. There could perhaps have been some more decoration like fake snow to really capture the winter wonderland vibe.

The chalets are running until the end of January 2022. From Tuesday to Saturday the chalets are open 11am-11pm with last booking at 9pm, and on Sundays and Mondays opening is 11am to 8:30pm with last sitting at 6:30pm. Sessions last for two hours.

Considering what you get for the price, it’s definitely worthwhile gathering some friends  and taking in the festive spirit over this amazing feast.
