Jaisalmer Indian Craft gin

Jaisalmer Indian Craft gin is a limited edition handcrafted gin made in India.

This gin boasts a time-honoured recipe filled with ancient wisdom of Indian herbs and handpicked botanicals. Indeed 7 of the 11 botanicals have been sourced from all over India.

Spicy notes from coriander and Cubeb pepper and zesty citrus notes from lemon and orange peel, combine with Darjeeling Green Tea and lemon grass to bring forth beautiful aromas and taste. Other botanicals include: juniper berries, Angelica root, liquorice, caraway seeds and vetiver. The latter is a fragrant grass from north India which brings a sweet, earthy tone.

There’s a strong juniper backbone with both sweet and spicy notes. This clear spirit is a classic London Dry style with an Indian twist. It’s no wonder that it won Best in Asia in the 2019 Gin Guide Awards and silver for the Distilled Super Premium Gin International Spirits Challenge 2019.

The bottle design is classy and alludes to elegance and royalty.  It’s a black bottle with muted gold cap and writing with a curling blue script. The black buck in the logo is likened to the Jaisalmer Royal Flag while between its horns os the Jaisalmer Fort. On the back is a black and gold image of camels in the desert. These images plus the colour scheme illustrate it’s home city of Jaisalmer which has been likened to a golden canvas. Together all these elements combine to transports you away the current Lockdown in the UK and reminds me of my time visiting dazzling India.

Given the UK Lockdown and trying to only shop for essentials, we made the classic Jaisalmer Indian gin & tonic. This is comprised of 50ml gin, 125ml of fever tree Indian tonic water, orange peel and ice. Very refreshing drink and perfect to have whilst listening to some tunes or video calling friends.

There’s a little recipe book showcasing a Jaisalmer Negroni, the Maharaja mojito and the Jaisalmer Peppertini. The Black Buck gin and tonic sounds great- in fact I’ve addd Darjeeling green tea and lemongrass to my shopping list so I can try this next time. Likewise the Golden Fort sounds completely refreshing with its use of apple juice and crisp apples.

A triple distilled neutral grain spirit redistilled in a copper pot still, it’s made with 700-800 batches at a time. It is distilled and bottled by Radico Khaitan Limited (previously Rampur Distillery) in Rampur.

Jaisalmer gin is available on a number of online stores retailing for around £35 though prices differ.

We thoroughly enjoyed this gin and recommend checking it out.
