Marylebone Village Christmas Light Switch-On
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The Christmas light switch-ons started earlier this month across London and this week (13th) award-winning English actor Martin Freeman turned on the switch for Marylebone Village.
The Merry Marylebone Christmas lights and shopping event on 13th featured a range of stalls with festive gifts, specially curated menus and of course festive tipples such as mulled wine. There were exclusive promotions for over 30 brands and activities such as festive workshops and live music. Santa even made an appearance at Santa’s Grotto. We had a wander along the stalls, looking at the wreath making workshop and children enjoying rides. As you can’t go to a Christmas market without having a mulled wine, we stopped off to use a drinks voucher at Fischer’s. Thisfirst mulled wine of the season didn’t disappoint- with its warm by blend of sweet and spice.

Before the main event we saw the three winners of the Christmas card competition, judged by Caroline Gardner. We admired the winner’s beautiful woodland creatures scene. Local resident and presenter Jo Good (@middleagedminx) then invited Martin Freeman to the stage where he spoke about what Christmas means to him. Martin also spoke about his time as a patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital, this year’s charity partner, whom he is an Ambassador for.

Now it was time to countdown from 10. When Martin pressed the button, Christmas music started, the snow machine started and the Christmas lights hanging in the streets and trees turned on. It was lovely to see children playing I the fake snow, and the atmosphere of family and community coming together to celebrate. I’m more in the mood for Christmas now and it’s made me want to do some Christmas craft this weekend.
Located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, Marylebone Village offers a unique blend of independent boutiques and larger, more established brands; some rooted in the community for decades, others dynamic new arrivals. There’s many cafes and restaurants offering a diverse culinary experience. The festive makes Marylebone Village the ultimate place for festive shopping this Christmas.
We then headed to La Brasseria, an Italian restaurant on Marylebone High Street. Read our review to find out what we thought.
