New Cocktail menu at Coupette
Bethnal Green, old school east end haunt of lushes and gangsters or gentrified hipster hangout? Maybe you can have a bit of both, but with a french accent. Cocktail bar Coupette, prides itself on expertly crafted cocktails served with a classic and unpretentious style resulting in flavour and craft over showy procedures.
Coupette’s new drinks menu entitled “Urban Legends & Their Uprising Tales” is a story as much as a selection of drinks. The new 6 chapter menu is an exploration into the darker side of East London and a tale of wits, innovation and teamwork winning against all odds.
The eye catching menu, beautifully designed by Molly Rose, guides you through a story of the growth of an East end gang and their rum smuggling, hustling ways. The story is aided with a series of short videos directed by Andrei and produced by PixelProMedia, accessible via a QR code on each page of the menu.
So onto the drinks! They don’t disappoint, and they live up to the claim of substance over style. Not to say these drinks aren’t stylish, they are flawlessly elegant and classic with not an umbrella in sight.
Drinks include the subtly smokey “boardroom” sumptuously sweet and sour all at the same time, with Henessey Fine De Congac, Dubonnet, Cherry Heering, Mr Blacks, Walnut and Smoke.
At the opposite end of the mood spectrum is the “Watermelon Spritz” Delightfully zingy with a dusty pink hue. The combination of Bombay Sapphire gin, Watermelon, Grilled Melon Consommé, Cucumber Soda and Moët & Chandon creates a fresh zingy drink (one of our faves).
There are some classics with a twist, “The Bitter Quarter” replaces sweet vermouth with forced carrot to accompany the other usual Negroi suspects of Bombay Sapphire Gin and Campari. Old Fashioned for breakfast? With Toasted Rye Barley & Wheat, Aztec Chocolate Bitters, Malt Cacao and Highland Park 12 Whiskey, we say why the hell not.
The unexpected surprise was the “Chocolate and Red Wine”. Expecting a heavy, rich, sickly cocktail, we were delighted by it’s light, yet complex flavour. Flor De Caña 18yrs, Chocolate Wine, Wonder Chocolate, Cacao x3, Minus Cream, this drink is pretty special.
If complex, and well crafted flavours served in classic glassware is your thing, get yourself down to Coupette, you won’t be disappointed.
