Salcombe Gin reveals Ocean Inspired cocktail ‘Setting Seagrass’ for London Cocktail Month

Just in time for London Cocktail Month, Salcombe Gin has partnered with groundbreaking zero waste Hackney based restaurant, Silo, to create ‘Setting Seagrass’ an ocean inspired cocktail, with 1% of all cocktail sales going to the Marine Conservation Society’s seagrass regeneration project. For every 100 cocktails sold at Silo during London Cocktail Month, the Marine Conservation Society will protect and regenerate 50m2 of seagrass.

The seagrass inspired cocktail has been created incorporating Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’ with red dulse, skin contact vermouth, toasted sea lettuce and apple skin tea which will be served in a rocks glass, with a block of ice, garnished with a salted lemon spritz. This drink offers a delicate and savoury aperitivo style martini serve, focusing on the aromatics and green flavours inspired by seagrass. The red dulse and sea lettuce used has been sourced from The Cornish Seaweed Company who specialise in sustainable, hand harvested edible seaweed.

Stephen Mutty, Assistant Restaurant Manager of Silo commented: ‘We love collaborating with brands who share the same values as us, which is why we decided to partner with Salcombe Distilling Co. for London Cocktail Month. As a zero waste restaurant we are committed to making decisions that help to protect the environment and this collaboration with SDCo. and the Marine Conservation Society works towards that exact goal. We hope after a challenging 18 months our customers come to Silo throughout October to enjoy the delicious Setting Seagrass’ cocktail where 1%of price of the cocktail will go to support the regeneration of seagrass.”

Howard Davies, Co-Founder of Salcombe Distilling Co. commented, “Having launched our 1% for the Oceans initiative with Marine Conservation Society back in June this year, it ’s really exciting to be building on this with the support of Silo at our side.

With their ground breaking approach to zero waste dining combined with our commitment to making fine spirits whilst benefiting the health and wellbeing of our oceans; I like to think that we’re creating a ripple effect for positive change in the hospitality and spirits industry.

The ‘Setting Seagrass’ cocktail we’ve collaborated on with Silo and the Marine Conservation Society tastes outstanding, and to know that every sip is supporting our oceans is worth raising glass to!”

The ‘Setting Seagrass’ will be available at Silo until 31st October 2021 for £10 per cocktail.
