Number 90 Bar & Kitchen

This was no ordinary night. It was the beginning of a four-day long party, to celebrate Number 90 Bar & Kitchen turning the ripe old age of two. And what a party they threw! With everything from Groove Armada’s Tim Findlay on the decks spinning funky tunes, to a totally chilled out vibe on the waterside terrace outside.

It’s not often you go to a bar where you feel like it’s a place from the depths of your imagination. Yet that’s exactly how my sister and I felt when we ventured to this all-round edgy drinking den, set aside the East-End canal.

Finding the bar was an adventure in itself. Weaving through the concrete jungle of Hackney Wick, with its urban, graffiti-strewn buildings around every corner. The most impressive artwork appeared to be the thought-provoking design painted across Number 90 Bar & Kitchen itself.

Inside, it became apparent that this warehouse-style bar wasn’t just your regular waterhole. Oh no. It had bags of character and interesting features; including an art gallery with minimalist, edgy designs for sale. The colourful graffiti continued behind the bar, with fairy lights draping from the ceiling.

Outside, stepping into the waterside decking area it felt very much like being transported to a calm, serene location somewhere in Bali. With laidback Bonobo-style music playing softly in the background, neat minimalist wooden decking, and terraced hanging plants, it felt exotically urban.

As we sipped on cocktails looking out over the canal, we were amazed to witness two swans gracefully gliding along the calm waters. It’s not often you see urban swans in London; and where better to see them than when you’re sipping on a cocktail named 90 Ways to Happiness! With a generous dash of Appleton rum, mango, bitters, lime and ginger beer, this delicious cocktail certainly lived up to its name. My sister enjoyed the frozen berry daiquiri, which was equally yummy.

The food was spectacular. Tasters of the Portobello mushroom and goat’s cheese burger were handed around. These beauties can only be described as heaven in your mouth. As was the chorizo burger, which we ordered for mains, along with a portion of super sweet potato fries.

Back inside the bar, Tim Findlay was spinning some classic anthems on the decks. It’s not often you get to enjoy food whilst listening to a live DJ set. This place will definitely give you something to rave about.

So check out Number 90 Bar & Kitchen, for a fun-filled night full of drinks, food, and partying. After all life is a party!
