Onin.London Visits KöD Soho.

After hearing thaf Danish restaurant group, DiningSix were opening their second site, KöD Soho I was excited to visit. So when the parentals decided to visit from Australia and I received the invite to come review… it seemed the perfect chance to check it out.

The new venue is hidden down St Anne’s Court, offering a quiet respite from the usually tourist hotspots of Soho. My parents exclaimed “wow this is fancy” as we walked in and they were glad I told them to dress to impress. KöD Soho is a beautiful restaurant and one I’ve already recommended to my friends.

After being seated, Zillah, our lovely waitress told us a little bit about the restaurant even telling us that the name KöD means meat in Danish and is pronounced similarly to ‘cool’. Zillah explained the concept of the restaurant and she entertained my father listening to his stories of Japanese Wagu vs Black Angus Australian Beef. Mum and I were then encouraged to order the cocktail of the month, the elderflower spritz. Mine, sans cucumber. This proved to be a bit strong for my mum (who isn’t a big drinker) but for me went down a treat. Dad opted for the Danish Beer, Tuborg Pilsner and he was impressed.

As mum wasn’t a big drinker and it looked like I’d have to polish off the bottle of wine myself, I chose to order the Sauska, Rosé. This wine was refreshing and one I would order again.

For starters, dad ordered the KöD Tartare – Stirred steak tartare from prime British beef with mustard, horseradish, shallots, capers, chives & tarragon. Served with smoked garlic cream & Jerusalem artichoke chips. He throughly enjoyed it, loudly declaring to anyone who would listen that he’d eaten in some of the best restaurants in Sydney and this was the best Tartare, he’d ever eaten. Mum and I shared a lighter dish of Garlic prawns & Tabasco dip – Warm tiger prawns marinated in garlic & parsley. Served with spicy tomato salsa, horseradish & pea shoots. Perfectly flavoured and was a nice start to a meal which became even more enjoyable with every bite.

When it came to mains, dad and I couldn’t resist a steak while mum ordered the truffle & tarragon butterand Pan-roasted salmon with fennel & herb salad. My 35-day aged fillet steak was absolutely lovely – it’s my go to order but it paled in comparison to my dad’s Wagyu steak. Now that was something special. If you’re going to treat yourself, you really can’t go wrong ordering the Wagyu. It melted in your mouth and didn’t need the Madagascan Pepper Sauce at all.

To accompany our mains we shared a mix of Chilli-garlic fries, Mashed potatoes with smoked bacon & onion compote sautéed in wagyu fat & butter and Truffle mac & cheese.

We throughly enjoyed our meal and wish we had room for dessert because if with every bite, our meal got better and better I can only imagine what the desserts would have tasted like.

Thank you KöD Soho, you gave me and my parents a very enjoyable evening. My dad declared it the best meal he’d had in a long time.

Make sure you visit KöD Soho next time you’re looking to impress your family, friends or a date… you won’t be disappointed.
