Orange Tree Theatre Productions

Three exciting new productions open at the Orange Tree Theatre on 25th January 2017. ‘How to be a Kid’, ‘Black Mountain’ and ‘Out of Love’ are a collaboration between Paines Plough, Orange Tree and Theatr Clwyd Productions. Their time in London follows acclaimed performances in Edinborough and a nationwide tour in Paines Plough Roundabout.

‘How to be a Kid’ is about Molly, a 12 year old who cooks and looks after her little brother Joe. Now that her mother is feeling better, she needs to learn to be a child again but this is difficult given her experiences. This heart-warming story of family, friends, love and hope may also feature chocolate, dancing and a car chase. Playwright Sarah McDonald-Hughes has won the Best Play for Young Audiences at the Writers Guild. ‘How to be a Kid’ is suitable for children 7 or older. Duration is 50 minutes.

‘Out of Love’ centres around best friends Lorna and Grace. While Lorna is offered a place at university, Grace becomes pregnant and they find themselves facing very different experiences and a widening of the gap between them. Set over 30 years, it is a tale of lifelong friendship and love. In 2013, playwright Elinor Cook won the George Devine Award  for Most Promising Playwright. Duration is 70 minutes.

‘Black Mountain’ by Brad Birch is a psychological thriller about betrayal and forgiveness. Rebecca and Dan are running away from memories while trying to salvage their relationship. When they find an empty house in the country they agree to be honest with, and listen to, each other. However, when you are being followed it’s hard to run away. Who is following them and why? Birch is the winner of the Harold Pinter Commission. His play ‘The Brink’ had its opening at Orange Tree in 2016. The duration will be 70 minutes.

Each play runs from 25 January to 3 March 2018 at Orange Tree Theatre. Tickets can be purchased online or via the box office. Captioned performances and relaxed performances are available for certain performances on selected dates.

Keep an eye out for ONIN London’s review of all three performances to hear our views.
