Richard Ward Beauty Range

Richard Ward

By Carolyn Owlett

Award winning celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward is one of the industry’s leading lights. Appearing as resident hair stylist on TV shows including The Alan Titchmarsh show, Lorraine and Trinny and Susannah’s makeover shows Richard has firmly cemented himself as the medias ‘most wanted’ hairdresser.  As if that wasn’t enough Richard pioneered the Super Salon concept and from his uber –cool award winning Sloan Square salon, Richard and his team of 90 expert staff groom over 1000 clients per week including a host of A list celebrities and royalty!

But fear not, for those who wince at the idea of paying Chelsea prices, Richard created an affordable range of luxury hair products sold exclusively at Waitrose, appropriately named, The Chelsea Collection.  The latest offering to the best selling collection is the anti-ageing argan oil range containing hero ingredient Olea leaf.  Another bonus is that all of the products in this range contain colour lock and UV protection.

We spend thousands per year on anti aging skin products however hair can be one of the best indicators of a person’s age as it becomes fine, lank and noticeably difficult to manage.  Having completely overlooked my unruly hair as being a give away of my age I hurriedly agreed to test drive the anti aging range for myself.

Anti Ageing Argan Shampoo and Conditioner: £5.99

With a delicious smell and rich consistency this product feels luxurious on the hair from the moment it is applied.  According to the bottle, the argan oil contains healing ingredients and rejuvenating properties while Olea leaf helps restore lustre, shine and condition.   To my delight, they are right, not only did my hair feel very clean and bouncy it also seemed to have more volume at the root than usual.  Before I had even used the other products in the range I could tell that my hair was going to be easier to mange.

Anti-Ageing Intense Argan Treatment: £5.99

This age proofing hydrating treatment acts as a super intensive moisturising repair mask for dry ends.  Packed with a variety of super moisturising oils and ingredients, after just 30 minutes the difference is clearly visible.  The dryness had been greatly reduced and in tern the fly away, frizzy ends were smooth and appeared healthier.

Anti-Ageing Argan Mouse, £5.99

If you ever wanted to recreate the Chelsea blow dry in the comfort of your own home, then this product is your must have tool.  In addition to argan oil and Olea leaf this bodybuilding mouse contains honey derivatives to moisturise and thicken hair.  It also boasts style memory technology, ensuring a long lasting flexible hold.   In fact the only thing this product can’t do is physically blow-dry your hair itself, but if you are one of the gifted few with the ability to achieve a decent blow-dry on your own hair, which it transpires I am not, then I highly recommend trying this.   Although my attempt at a Kate Middleton failed miserably, my hair smelt delicious and in fairness to the product it did keep its’ shape…..it just happened to be the wrong one!

If I had to sum up how Richard Wards hair care products made me feel in one word it would be expensive. Whether or not it will be the magic elixir to kick-start the Benjamin Button process I am yet to decide, but what I do know is that my hair looks healthier, feels thicker and smells incredible.  As salon quality home hair care products go I think you will have to go a long way to beat the quality for price ratio on Richard Wards collections.
