Royal Horseguards Hotel, Gin Masterclass Review

If there is one thing to know about the United Kingdom and London, if you don’t already, is the importance of a properly poured and mixed Gin & Tonic. Now as importanta factor that gin is in the equation so much of it is the blending and coordination with the correct tonic to give you this refreshing drink.

At the Royal Horseguards Hotel on a back private terrace you can have your own gin master class learning about the importance and value to the gin and tonics that you chose to blend together. With a generous host of Fever Tree providing the tonic and the expertise of your instructor, you can gain a wealth of information. There is an in depthhistory of the gin and tonic as a classic cocktail and how it has developed and changed its’ sophistication over the years.

Upon arrival you are greeted with a deliciously refreshing gin and tonic while you wait for the rest of the guests to arrive. As you begin the class there is a brief history lesson about where gin comes from and how it became so popular and also a dangerous drink to the people of London in the 18th century. You then are educated on how tonic became part of the mix and where tonic actually comes from. The Fever Tree story was fascinating. It was interesting to learn that the main ingredient in a traditional Indian tonic is Quinine, which is a substance that was used medicinally as a fever reducer. This substance is harvested from the bark of a specific tree called the Cinchona tree hence where Fever Tree got its’ name.

Along with this fun fact you learn so much more while being treated with delicious food tapas provided by the Royal Horseguards Hotel Restaurant. This is an experience well worth it and to be able to go home with a better understanding of why the Gin & Tonic has become the iconic drink of London. A recommended fun night out for something a little different and to enjoy a variety of gin and tonic combinations that you will make you the gin snob next time you go to a bar for your perfect gin and tonic mix.
